According to the medical literature, the association of primary hyperparathyroidism and Paget's disease varies from 2.2 to 6%. Up to the year 2006, a total of 73 cases had been described, where both diagnoses occurred simultaneously. However, no manifestation of primary hyperparathyroidism during the follow-up of Paget's disease has been reported in the revised literature. We report the case of a well-controlled patient, who developed primary hyperparathyroidism during the 10-year follow-up of Paget's disease. A 68-year-old male patient with active polyostotic Paget's disease was successfully

INTRODUCTION: Paget disease, localized on thoracal vertebrae, presents a significant challenge in diagnostics and treatment. Presenting with progressive neurological symptoms, it has a broad differential diagnostic spectrum and requires additio-nal radiological, neurological and endocrinological evaluation. Besides drug therapy, an operative decompression of nerve elements is performed when indicated.
CASE OUTLINE: We present a case of an older male patient complaining of chronic progressive pain localized at fourth and fifth thoracal vertebrae, with slight but progressive hypertonus and hype

Bisphosphonates (BPs), antiresorptive agents, have been established as first line drugs for treatment of osteoporosis and widely used all over the worlds. In Japan alendronate and risedronate, newer generation of BPs have been developed according to a evidence-based guideline and approved for clinical use in 2001 and in 2002, respectively. Although these BPs have been shown to have antifractures efficacy, great efforts have been made to explore convenient administration routes and schedules of BPs for individual patients. On the other hand, some of BPs are indicated for abnormal bone and calci

We present the case of a 65-year-old man with brown tumors due to secondary hyperparathyroidism. Magnetic resonance imaging of the pelvis showed multiple lesions with expansive bone appearance. Additionally, prostate cancer was diagnosed during this time. For this reason, differential diagnosis was performed through biopsy of the right iliac bone lesion. Brown tumors are caused by osteoclastic activity and fibroblast proliferation; the differential diagnosis of these bone lesions includes giant tumors, metastases, Paget's disease, and paraneoplastic syndrome with high levels of parathyroid hor

Benign fibro-osseous lesions of the craniofacial complex are represented by a variety of disease processes that are characterized by patholo … ndent upon assessment of microscopic, clinical and imaging features together. Fibrous dysplasia and osteitis deformans constitute two dysplastic lesions in which mutations have been uncovered. Other dysplastic bone diseases of the craniofacial complex include florid osseous dysplasia, focal cemento-osseous dysplasia and periapical cemental dysplasia, all showing a p …

Sensorineural hearing loss resulting from auditory nerve impingement due to temporal bone abnormalities may occur in patients with osteitis deformans, osteopetrosis, other osseous abiodystrophies, and aging. In experimental animals, vitamin A deficiency and normal aging may result in temporal bone abnormalities; however, these bony changes have not been associated with sensorineural hearing loss. In assessing 27 Hartley guinea pigs prior to ototoxicity studies, two 33-week-old female animals, when tested for Pryer reflex and brainstem auditory-evoked responses, were found to have severe bilate…
