INTRODUCTION: The recurrent laryngeal nerve can be injured during surgery. This study investigated recurrent laryngeal nerve reinnervation.
OBJECTIVE: To study the short-term effects of primary anastomosis of the recurrent laryngeal nerve, by laryngeal electromyography and histopathological analysis, in a rabbit model.
METHOD: Twenty Zealand rabbits underwent either right recurrent laryngeal nerve (1) transection with excision of 1 cm or (2) transection and end-to-end primary anastomosis. Vocal fold movements, laryngeal electromyography results and histological changes were recorded.

Of 57 reviewed cases of malignant melanoma in teenagers, 51 had a minimum follow-up of 5 years. The histological and some clinical features of the 51 cases were compared for diagnostic and prognostic significance with those of 19 Spitz naevi and 10 other benign naevi using the SPSS-X computer program. Lichen planus-like keratosis (LPLK) is a common skin lesion that has some morphologic features of lichen planus (LP) and lichenoid actinic keratosis (LAK). Although most authors consider LPLK to be a distinct lesion, surgical pathologists are often unfamiliar with it. Candidiasis was experimentally produced in young Japanese quail by oral administration of Candida albicans cells. Lesions were confined to upper digestive tract with most characteristic changes occurring on the mucosa of crop. No lesions were observed in other tissues of the body. A case of sarcoidosis with generalized erythroderma, exfoliation and micropapule formation in a 6-year-old boy is presented. Follicular spiny keratoses, resembling those seen in pityriasis rubra pilaris, and palmo-plantar pitting were among the other extraordinary features in this case. The epidermis overlying the widespread sarcoid granulomata showed parakeratosis, lymphocytic infiltration and degeneration of the basal layer.

Leukonychia striata of a unique appearance and distribution is described in a 51-year-old woman. Histopathologic examination of a specimen from the nail plate revealed a transverse band of parakeratosis on the ventral surface. Disturbance in keratinization on the nail plate is presumed to be secondary to abnormalities in the nail matrix. We review briefly the classification and pathogenesis of leukonychia, an interesting aberration in nail plate keratinization.

DiGeorge syndrome is a congenital anomaly with a constellation of findings that includes thymic hypoplasia. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to use a murine model of psoriasis to examine the effect of total glycosides of paeony (TGP) on psoriatic skin lesions and on the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in skin lesions and blood.

In three experiments with fattening pigs the supplementation of a ration with 8% rapeseed oilmeal (RSO) with 1 mg J/kg resulted in an increased weight gain per day of 31, 94 and 87%. We present a case of a 16-year-old boy with asthma referred to pediatric gastroenterology for nausea and chronic cough. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy and bronchoscopy revealed parakeratosis/hyperkeratosis in the esophagus and nontuberculous mycobacteria pulmonary infection, respectively. Presumed reflux as a unifying cause for his symptoms was confirmed with intra-esophageal pH monitoring, and he was successfully treated with a proton pump inhibitor and a four-drug antimicrobial regimen.
