Management and clinical analysis of complications following all-on-4 implant-supported rehabilitation in a patient with severe maxillary bone deficiency and periodontitis: a case report.

BACKGROUND: The All-on-4 implant technique offers an effective rehabilitation solution for maxillary bone - deficient patients, yet preventing and controlling complications in those with severe periodontitis and Parkinson's disease (PD) poses a clinical challenge. CASE PRESENTATION: A 63-year-old PD patient had multiple teeth extracted due to mobility years ago and a history of failed implant rehabilitation in the posterior maxilla at another hospital. He was diagnosed with dentition defect and chronic periodontitis upon admission. Immediate All-on-4 implant rehabilitation was performed after

Rehabilitation of Atrophied Maxillary Bones With Short-Splinted Implants in a Periodontitis Patient: A Six-Year Follow-Up Case Report.

This case report aims to report the successful use of a short-splinted implant in a patient with a history of periodontal disease. Two implants were used to rehabilitate severe atrophied alveolar ridge with fixed prosthesis. Despite the left posterior ridge being weakened by maxillary sinus pneumatization and bone remodeling after tooth extraction, no bone grafts nor sinus osteotomy procedures were needed for the rehabilitation surgery. The report examines the use of Roxolid® SLActive® surface implants (Straumann Group, Basel, Switzerland) for the restoration of missing posterior teeth in the

Relationship between periodontitis and rheumatoid arthritis and the effect of non-surgical periodontal treatment.

This study analyzed the association of periodontal disease (PD) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Seventy-five 35-60-year-old patients were assigned to 5 groups according to the presence (+) or not (-) of PD and RA and the treatment received (TR+) or not (TR-) for PD. Group 3 uses total prosthesis (TP). Clinical and laboratory evaluations were performed at baseline, 3 and 6 months of follow-up by probing pocket depth, bleeding on probing and plaque index for PD, HAQ, DAS28, SF-36 and laboratory: AAG, ESR, CRP for RA. Statistically significant differences for PD after 3 (p=0.0055) and after 6 mont

Periodontal plastic surgery for the management of an ankylosed permanent maxillary lateral incisor: A clinical report with 5-year follow-up.

Anterior maxillary tooth ankylosis disturbs the development of the alveolar bone process, leading to discrepancies between the cervical gingival margin and incisal edge position of the affected tooth, and therefore, the esthetics is compromised. Proposed treatments in adults and growing patients have been used successfully, but they have disadvantages and are contraindicated in some circumstances. This article proposes an alternative treatment for an ankylosed permanent maxillary anterior tooth with a slow replacement resorption rate in an adult patient, for whom a combination of a periodontal

A piezo surgery with corticotomies and implant placement as part of a multidisciplinary approach to treat malocclusion disorder in an adult patient: clinical report.

This clinical report illustrates a multidisciplinary approach for the rehabilitation of a young adult patient affected by a bilateral edentulous space and an anterior deep bite. The patient required orthodontics and surgical corticotomy and implantology (both performed with a piezo device). A multidisciplinary planning approach, including orthodontics, oral and periodontic surgery, and restorative dentistry, has an important role in the final outcome of treatment. In fact a dental class I occlusion has been established only on the right side. The left side could not be restored to an ideal cla

Is the burden of oral diseases higher in urban disadvantaged community compared to the national prevalence?

BACKGROUND: The urban low income has often been assumed to have the greatest dental treatment needs compared to the general population. However, no studies have been carried out to verify these assumptions. This study was conducted to assess whether there was any difference between the treatment needs of an urban poor population as compared to the general population in order to design an intervention programme for this community. METHODS: A random sampling of living quarters (households) in the selected areas was done. 586 adults over 19 years old living in these households were clinically ex

Assessment of Language Barriers Between Dental Students and Patients in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia-A Mixed Methods Study.

Background: Language serves as a significant barrier to accessing dental services. Dental treatment options are often complex and involve terminology that is unfamiliar to most patients. In some cases, dental students may use technical terms that patients do not understand, leading to confusion and misunderstandings. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the language barriers faced by dental students and patients in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Methods: A mixed-methods research design was employed to evaluate language barriers between dental students and patients, as it provides an in-depth understan

Labial repositioning using polymethylmethracylate (PMMA)-based cement for esthetic smile rehabilitation-A case report.

INTRODUCTION: One of the most common esthetic complaints among dental patients is a gingival smile, which may be of multifactorial etiology, e.g. gingival hyperplasia, skeletal deformities featuring overgrowth of the anterior maxilla, altered passive eruption, maxillary alveolar tooth extrusion, fine lip and hypermobility of lip elevator muscles, which must be diagnosed prior to treatment so that the appropriate management approach can be selected. Maxillary overgrowth may give rise to subnasal skeletal depression where the upper lip retracts to during smiling, causing gingival exposure. The o

Case report: utilization of Z-Point fixture "Trans-nasal" implants.

UNLABELLED: Severe bone loss in the anterior maxilla poses challenges to implant placement, especially when treating the entire arch. Utilization of zygomatic implants may not allow positioning of the implant platform anterior enough to properly support the full arch prosthesis, leaving an anterior cantilever in some clinical cases. IMPORTANCE: Placement of implants into the trans-nasal bone between the pneumatized maxillary sinus and nasal fossa allows utilization of an extralong implant in this residual bone to augment zygomatic implants placed distal to this for better support of a full ar

Management of a hopeless mandibular molar: a case report.

Intentional tooth reimplantation can be an alternative treatment option for teeth with poor or hopeless prognosis where coronal and surgical endodontic treatment(s) are not possible. This technique may help to restore a natural tooth to function in preference to prosthesis/implant replacements. A 38-years old male was referred to private practice with persistent chronic apical periodontitis of a previously root canal treated mandibular left first molar. A furcal perforation and distolingual cusp fracture was previously repaired and treated with amalgam (~5 years ago). In view of the patient/to

Localized alveolar ridge augmentation using a two-step approach with different soft tissue grafts: a clinical report.

AIM: The purpose of this report is to present the use of different soft tissue grafting procedures for surgical ridge augmentation. BACKGROUND: Multiple augmentative procedures may be indicated for the esthetic reconstruction of edentulous alveolar ridge deformities due to unpredictable shrinkage of augmented tissues. REPORT: A 38-year-old woman with a moderate Class III alveolar ridge defect received periodontal plastic surgery treatment using a combined onlay-interpositional graft procedure and a subepithelial connective tissue graft. SUMMARY: This case illustrates the aesthetic reconstru

Rehabilitation of the Completely Edentulous Mandible by All-on-Four Treatment Concept: A Retrospective Cohort Study with Up to 10 Years Follow-Up.

(1) Background and Objectives. Currently, there are no definitive long-term data about clinically significant difference in the failure of prosthesis and implant or marginal bone loss related to the rehabilitation of the completely edentulous mandible by all-on-four treatment concept. The main aim of present investigation was to report the long-term outcomes (10-years follow-up) of complete-arch mandibular rehabilitations based on the all-on-four concept. (2) Materials and Methods. Patients in need of extractions of teeth due to the occurrence of caries and/or severe periodontal disease and pa
