[New Scientific Evidence-based Public Health Guidelines and Practical Manual for Prevention of Sick House Syndrome].

Recently, we have published a book containing evidence-based public health guidelines and a practical manual for the prevention of sick house syndrome. The manual is available through the homepage of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (http://www.mhlw.go.jp/file/06-Seisakujouhou-11130500-Shokuhinanzenbu/0000155147.pdf). It is an almost completely revised version of the 2009 version. The coauthors are 13 specialists in environmental epidemiology, exposure sciences, architecture, and risk communication. Since the 1970s, health problems caused by indoor chemicals, biological pollution, po

Schistosomiasis-related perceptions, attitudes and treatment-seeking practices in Magu district, Tanzania: public health implications.

A study on perceptions, attitudes and treatment-seeking practices related to schistosomiasis was conducted among the Wasukuma in the rural Magu district of Tanzania at the shore of Lake Victoria where Schistosoma haematobium and mansoni infections are endemic. The study applied in-depth interviews, focus group discussions and a questionnaire survey among adults and primary school children. The perceived symptoms and causes were incongruous with the biomedical perspective and a number of respondents found schistosomiasis to be a shameful disease. Lack of diagnostic and curative services at the

An Urgent Need for Evidence-Based Guidance on Mercury Exposure Screening to Inform Public Health Policy, Practice, and Prevention.

OBJECTIVES: Mercury exposure is a preventable public health concern that arises from multiple environmental, dietary, and occupational exposure pathways and poses disproportionate risks to the fetus during pregnancy. However, routine identification in clinical care is limited. This study aimed to generate practice-informed evidence from primary care clinicians serving populations at risk of mercury exposure to inform the development and implementation of evidence-based guidance on mercury exposure screening in primary care. METHODS: In April 2025, we conducted a qualitative study using semist

The Incidence of Scabies in Far North Queensland, Tropical Australia: Implications for Local Clinical Practice and Public Health Strategies.

The recognition and treatment of scabies has been incorporated into Australian guidelines for the prevention of acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and rheumatic heart disease (RHD). The incidence of both diagnosed ARF and RHD is increasing in Far North Queensland (FNQ) in northeast tropical Australia, but the local burden of scabies is incompletely defined. We reviewed the results of every skin scraping collected in FNQ's public health system between 2000 and 2023; 121/4345 (2.8%) scrapings were positive, including 19/1071 (1.8%) in the last 5 years of the study; the proportion of scrapings that were

Understanding safe sport as a public health practice: a strong structuration theory analysis of Swedish elite athletics sport personnel.

BACKGROUND: Exposure to harmful environments and practices is reported across a wide range of sports, including athletics, with negative imp … tural conditions that support athlete welfare. The findings position safe sport as a settings-based public health practice contingent on organisational conditions that strengthen sport personnel's agency and enable preventive action. Transformative change towards safe sport appears to require institutionalised prevention capacity, including clear accountability, and res …

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Perineal injuries stemming from episiotomies or natural perineal tears are frequent postpartum issues that necessitate appropriate management to avert infection and facilitate healing. In low- and middle-income nations, such as Ethiopia, the care for perineal wounds is frequently shaped by numerous cultural, socioeconomic, and healthcare system factors. This research sought to evaluate the management of perineal wound care and its associated factors among postpartum women in public health institutions in Gambella Regional State, western Ethiopia, 2024. A cross-sectional study based in an insti

Does syndromic surveillance assist public health practice in early detecting respiratory epidemics? Evidence from a wide Italian retrospective experience.

BACKGROUND: Large-scale diagnostic testing has been proven ineffective for prompt monitoring of the spread of COVID-19. Electronic resources may facilitate enhanced early detection of epidemics. Here, we aimed to retrospectively explore whether examining trends in the use of emergency and healthcare services and the Google search engine is useful in detecting Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus outbreaks early compared with the currently used swab-based surveillance system. METHODS: Healthcare Utilization databases of the Italian region of Lombardy and the Google Trends website were

Mitigating risk in audiology and speech therapy practice: Essential risk management and control strategies for private and public practices in resource-constrained health systems.

Effective risk management is central to patient safety, regulatory compliance, and organizational sustainability in healthcare. In South Africa, audiology and speech therapy practitioners operate within a system characterized by resource constraints, regulatory complexity, and socio-economic inequality, resulting in differentiated risk exposure across practice settings. This study explored risks encountered by practitioners and the strategies used to mitigate these risks. A qualitative design was employed in 2025 with 92 practitioners. Data were analyzed thematically, supported by descriptive

Awareness and practices of community pharmacists toward dextromethorphan misuse in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia: implications for regulation and public health.

BACKGROUND: Dextromethorphan (DXM) is an over-the-counter cough suppressant with recognized potential for misuse and abuse when taken at supratherapeutic doses. Community pharmacists are well positioned to identify and prevent such misuse, yet limited data exist from Saudi Arabia regarding their awareness, dispensing practices, and views on regulation. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among community pharmacists in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, using a self-administered questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize responses, and logistic regression was applied to identi

Antibiotics self-medication practices among health care professionals in selected public hospitals of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: Self-medication is the first option and response to most illness episodes. Use of antimicrobials without health care professionals' guidance may result in greater probability of inappropriate use, missed diagnosis, delays in appropriate treatment, pathogen resistance and increased morbidity. There is no sector in the health care community which is immune to drug abuse or misuse of which the worst offenders include physicians, nurses and pharmacy professionals. Self-medication among health care professionals may be an indicator that the health professional is neglecting his or her o

COVID-19 host genetic risk study conducted at community pharmacies: Implications for public health, research and pharmacists' scope of practice.

Community pharmacists serve a large, diverse population of patients, resulting in the potential to utilize community pharmacies as recruitment sites for clinical research. Beyond traditional roles as one of the most accessible health care professionals in the US healthcare system, pharmacists have played a major role in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, administering hundreds of thousands of vaccines and tests. However, less emphasis is placed on the ability to leverage community pharmacies as research-focused partners for clinical studies. In this study, we demonstrate the feasibility an

Containment of Ebola and Polio in Low-Resource Settings Using Principles and Practices of Emergency Operations Centers in Public Health.

Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs) have been credited with driving the recent successes achieved in the Nigeria polio eradication program. EOC concept was also applied to the Ebola virus disease outbreak and is applicable to a range of other public health emergencies. This article outlines the structure and functionality of a typical EOC in addressing public health emergencies in low-resource settings. It ascribes the successful polio and Ebola responses in Nigeria to several factors including political commitment, population willingness to engage, accountability, and operational and strategi

Epidemiological investigation of a Legionnaires' disease outbreak in Christchurch, New Zealand: the value of spatial methods for practical public health.

Between April and August 2005 Christchurch, New Zealand experienced an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease. There were 19 laboratory-confirmed case including three deaths. Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 (Lpsg1) was identified as the causative agent for all cases. A case-control study indicated a geographical association between the cases but no specific common exposures. Rapid spatial epidemiological investigation confirmed the association and identified seven spatially significant case clusters. The clusters were all sourced in the same area and exhibited a clear anisotropic process (notice
