In this article, the synthesis, structural studies, and luminescence properties of CuI, AgI, and AuI complexes of pyrimidine-based phosphine [C4H3N2-2-NH(CH2PPh2)] (1) are described. The reactions of 1 with CuX led to the isolation of one-dimensional (1D) chain, tetranuclear ladder, or cyclic derivatives. Toxoplasmosis is a common protozoan infection that can have severe outcomes in the immunocompromised and during pregnancy, but treatment options are limited. In this article, a series of 29 new pyrimidine N-acylhydrazone hybrids were synthesized and evaluated in vitro against Leishmania amazonensis and Trypanosoma cruzi protozoa that cause the neglected diseases cutaneous leishmaniasis and Chagas disease, respectively. Eight of the target compounds showed significant antiprotozoal activities with IC50 values in 4.3-33.6 μM range. The more active compound 4f exhibited selectivity index greater than 15 and drug-like properties based on Lipinski's rule.

Detailed biochemical studies have been carried out in a female heterozygote for ornithine carbamoyl-transferase (OCT) deficiency. Increased levels of the pyrimidines, orotic acid, uridine and uracil, were observed in plasma as well as urine by utilizing an adaptation of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Urinary clearances of these compounds were high, that of orotic acid indicating net secretion. We compared three methods for estimating the induction and removal of UV-induced pyrimidine dimers from the DNA of human fibroblasts. Results indicate that after UV doses of 5-20 J/m2, 50% of the dimers are removed by 24 hours. Almost complete excision can be observed if the cells are incubated for periods not less than 72 hours after a dose of 5 J/m2. After higher doses, it probably takes even longer for such complete removal to doses, it probably takes even longer for such complete removal to be seen.
