AIM: This case report aims to describe the importance of early diagnosis, various clinical features, and management of radicular cyst with primary mandibular molar.
BACKGROUND: Radicular cyst is an odontogenic inflammatory cyst in origin seen more frequently in permanent dentition and rarely in the primary dentition. It can develop due to pulp injuries or pulp necrosis caused by deep dental caries or dental trauma. It may adversely affect the normal development and eruption of the permanent succedaneous teeth.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We report a case of radicular cyst in association with the prima…

Eosinophilic granuloma is a common expression of Langerhans cell histiocytosis and corresponds with typical bone lesions. The radiographic appearance of eosinophilic granuloma in the jaw is variable and not specific. It may resemble periodontitis, radicular cyst, or malignancies. The purpose of this report is to describe the characteristic radiographic features of eosinophilic granuloma of a 39-year-old male. The lesion in the anterior mandible was first diagnosed as radicular cyst because the radiographic findings were ovoid radiolucent lesion with well-defined border. However, careful interp…

Radicular cyst is one of the most common odontogenic cystic lesions found in the jaws. It is inflammatory in nature and found mostly in relation to a non-vital tooth. It usually presents at a later stage in life because the formation of the cyst is the last step in the progression of inflammatory events after a periapical infection. The cyst usually goes unnoticed because of its painless nature and small size. We present the clinical, radiographic and histological characteristics of a radicular cyst along with its management. Cystic sac was removed surgically under general anaesthesia after th…

The radicular cyst arises from epithelial remnants stimulated to proliferate by an inflammatory process originating from pulpal necrosis of a non-vital tooth. Radiographically, the classical description of the lesion is a round or oval, well-circumscribed radiolucent image involving the apex of the tooth. Radicular cyst is usually sterile unless it is secondarily infected. This article presents a successful case of conservative non-surgical management of an infected radicular cyst associated with an immature permanent mandibular second molar (47) in a 14-year-old child.

This case reports on the treatment of a radicular cyst in a child. The patient presented a periapical radiolucent area associated to a root from the maxillary left primary second molar. After the extraction of the root, marsupilization of the lesion was done and a fixed resin tube was placed in the alveolar hole. After twenty-five months the lesion was healing. This technique has proved to be effective and conservative for the treatment of radicular cysts in primary teeth.

A radicular cyst, also known as a periapical cyst or root end cyst, is a type of odontogenic cyst that is typically associated with permanent teeth. The radicular cyst usually is associated with maxillary central incisors followed by mandibular first molars. It occurs as a result of bacterial infection and pulpal necrosis which leads to inflammatory stimulation of the epithelial cell rests of Malassez along the periodontal ligament area of the tooth. Most cases of the radicular cyst are asymptomatic and they are diagnosed accidentally during routine radiographic examination. This article prese…

A radicular cyst is one of the furthermost everyday odontogenic cysts of the anterior maxilla, not regularly comprehended in youth. They are found mostly at the apices of the tooth (periapical cyst), lateral surface of the roots (lateral radicular cyst) and remains in the jaw after removal of the offending tooth (residual cyst). The radicular cyst has been catalogued as an inflammatory cyst, as an outcome to pulpal necrosis succeeding caries, with a linked periapical inflammatory reaction. They advance sluggishly and asymptomatic lest infected. Because of this they can extent to big dimensions…

The purpose of this investigation was to study periapical lesions by means of computerized tomography to ascertain if this noninvasive method could be of value in distinguishing between radicular cysts and granulomas. Periapical radiographs were taken of the teeth of 60 human cadavers. Periapical radiolucencies were seen in conjunction with 33 teeth. Based on the periapical radiographs, an oral radiologist (J.P.) attempted to select 4 granulomas and 4 cysts from the 33 radiolucencies. Computerized tomography was performed on the root tips and the periapical lesions of these 8 teeth. The roots …

INTRODUCTION: Different cell types and cytokines have been identified as contributors to the formation of periapical lesions. In this perspective, this study aimed to evaluate the immunoexpression of interleukin (IL)-17, transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1, and the forkhead box P3 (FoxP3) in periapical lesions, correlating them with the type of lesion, the intensity of the inflammatory infiltrate, and the thickness of the cystic epithelial lining.
METHODS: Twenty periapical granulomas (PGs), 20 radicular cysts (RCs), and 20 residual radicular cysts (RRCs) were submitted to immunohistochemical…

OBJECTIVES: Apical periodontitis can appear clinically as apical granulomas or radicular cysts. There is evidence that immunologic factors are involved in the pathogenesis of both pathologies. In contrast to radicular cysts, the dentigerous cysts have a developmental origin. Macrophage polarization (M1 vs M2) is a main regulator of tissue homeostasis and differentiation. There are no studies comparing macrophage polarization in apical granulomas, radicular cysts, and dentigerous cysts.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-one apical granulomas, 23 radicular cysts, and 23 dentigerous cysts were analyz…

Maxillary sinus mucoceles are rare, benign, and expansile lesions that can lead to gradual enlargement and bony erosion. When a mucocele becomes infected, it is termed a mucopyocele or pyocele and can closely mimic odontogenic pathologies. We report the case of a 38-year-old male presenting with pain and swelling in the maxillary posterior region, mimicking a radicular cyst. Accurate diagnosis relies on a combination of symptoms, clinical evaluation, imaging, surgical exploration, and histological confirmation. This case highlights the clinical overlap between sinus mucopyoceles and odontogeni…

A radicular cyst, also known as a periapical cyst or root end cyst, is usually associated with permanent dentition and its association with deciduous teeth is an infrequent phenomenon. Radicular cyst typically arises from inflammation of the pulp and periapical tissues of a non-vital tooth. This article presents a case report of a six-year-old female with an apical periodontal cyst associated with deciduous and permanent teeth in the maxillary posterior region of the jaw. Early diagnosis of the lesion might have resulted in a conservative treatment plan. This text's purpose is to emphasize the…

Radicular cysts are considered rare in the primary dentition, comprising only 0.5 to 3.3% of the total number of radicular cysts in both primary and permanent dentitions. The aim of this case report is to present the clinical, radiographic and histological characteristics of radicular cyst associated with primary central incisor. Extraction and enucleation of the cyst was carried out under local anesthesia after elevation of the mucoperiosteal flap, which led to uneventful healing. How to cite this article: Subramanya PL. BACKGROUND: Cytokines were thought to play an important role for the expansion of odontogenic cysts. The purpose of this study was to evalua … d IL-1alpha, TNF-alpha, MCP-1, and RANTES, concentrations of which were significantly higher in the radicular cyst fluids than those in the residual cysts (P < 0.001 for IL-1alpha, TNF-alpha, and RANTES; P < 0.01 for MCP-1). Compared to the other mediators, the concentration of IL-1alpha was found to be highest in both of the cyst fluids. In addition, positive c …
