Retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF) is a very rare disease that is even more rare in the pediatric population. Even less common are idiopathic pediatric cases of retroperitoneal fibrosis, with a majority of reported pediatric retroperitoneal fibrosis cases being associated with secondary etiologies. We present an 11-year-old Caucasian female that was diagnosed with idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to work-up severe bilateral hydronephrosis that was identified with retroperitoneal ultrasound. Given the uncommon nature of this serious condition, we present th…

OBJECTIVE: To report two new cases of IgG4-related retroperitoneal fibrosis, a recently described pathology.
METHODS: We analyze two cases diagnosed in our center and performed a literature review.
RESULT: IgG4 related disease is a recently described entity that includes previously not related pathologies. The clinical manifestations are highly variable and its presentation is usually subacute. The treatment of choice is glucocorticoids. In our first case the outcome was favorable with corticosteroids and azathioprine. However, the second case required surgery on 2 occasions with radical nep…

Perirenal retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF) is a rare disease. RPF typically presents as a proliferation of fibrous tissue around the infrarenal aorta and the common iliac arteries. Rarely, RPF will only involve the perirenal space. We present the case of a 62-year-old man who was incidentally discovered to have isolated perirenal RPF.

Retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF) is a rare fibro-inflammatory condition that is idiopathic in most cases, but may be secondary to various causes. Although the cause and pathogenesis of the idiopathic form are unknown, immunogenetic factors and immunopathologic/autoimmune mechanisms are probably involved. Idiopathic RPF usually develops around the abdominal aorta and iliac arteries but in some cases may also involve the thoracic aorta and the origin of its major branches, with a pattern similar to that of other forms of large-vessel vasculitis. In addition, the disease is frequently associated wi…
