Various erythrocyte rosette forming cells (ERFC) were quantified in 111 patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA): total-ERFC (t-RFC), active-ERFC (act-ERFC), autologous-ERFC (auto-ERFC) and high affinity erythrocyte-antibody rosette forming cells (EA-RFC). Diffuse aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphomas are immunologically and morphologically heterogeneous. Morphologic subclassifications have been proposed with a presumptive relationship to immunologic phenotype. The identification of a morphologically unique lymphocyte in the peripheral blood of patients with infectious mononucleosis (IM) led to additional studies. Examination of Wright-stained smears of EDTA anticoagulated blood obtained from 25 patients with IM at presentation revealed significantly increased (p less than 0.0001) percentages of hand-mirror lymphocytes (HML) (mean 9.2%) compared with normal controls (mean 2.7%) or controls with nonspecific viral syndromes (mean 2.2%). Changes in IgG-Fc and IgM-C3b receptors of mouse peritoneal leucocytes after in vivo stimulation with Ascaris suum adult extract were studied. Erythrocyte IgG-Fc rosettes were found to initially be decreased with A. suum stimulated neutrophils, eosinophils and macrophages in comparison with nonstimulated cells. Platelet satellitism is uncommon phenomenon characterized by formation of platelet rosette around polymorphonuclear leucocytes in blood smear prepared from Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid anticoagulated blood. This phenomenon may cause reporting of spurious thrombocytopenia unless proper examination of blood smears. Here we describe a case of platelet satellitism in a 29 year old female which has been incidentally found on evaluation of eosinophilia in a bronchial asthma patient.

The nonspecific, stimulative effect of vitamin A, applied per os, was studied on the T and B cell population in the course of post-invasive, migratory phase of experimental ascariasis of swine. Circulating total E rosette-forming cells (E-RFC) and stable E-RFC (activated T cells) were studied in 10 patients with alcoholic hepatitis (AH), 15 with alcoholic cirrhosis (AC) and 20 normal controls. T lymphocytes were determined according to their ability to form rosettes with sheep erythrocytes, in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from 120 patients, and in peripheral blood from 59 patients. Normal CSF contained 74.9 +/- 9.6% T lymphocytes.
