Several studies have shown that the ruminative responses, which are defined as a coping pattern that focuses on the symptoms of depression and on the possible causes and consequences of these symptoms, are associated with depression. Recently, negative rumination, which is defined as the tendency to continue to think about something bad, harmful, or unhopeful for a long time, has been proposed as a vulnerability factor for depression. The purpose of this study was to compare depression scores associated with negative rumination and ruminative responses. We expected to find depression associate

Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is an endemic disease of small ruminants, and vaccination has been the method of control but outbreaks are continuously occurring in Pakistan. The following study presents a detailed investigation of an outbreak, suspected to be PPR, probably introduced by PPRV-infected sheep and goats from Sindh Province (north-west) to Punjab Province (central) of Pakistan during the flood relief campaign in 2011. A total of 70 serum samples from 28 different flocks were tested with competitive ELISA (H antibodies), which detected 24 (34.2%) samples positive for PPRV antibodi…

Rumination syndrome is a disorder of gut-brain interaction characterized by regurgitation of food and/or fluid shortly after ingestion. While medical management for stabilization of nutrition/weight and hydration and comorbid gastrointestinal symptoms is pertinent, behavioral intervention is the primary treatment to address rumination syndrome. This article describes rumination syndrome, the epidemiology and pathophysiology, medical and psychosocial consequences, and medical and behavioral treatment. A case study is utilized throughout for further description. Relevant research is also reviewe

Infantile rumination can be defined as self-induced regurgitation of previously swallowed food. Because it can lead to potential somatic complications and because it implies dysfunctional mother-child bonding, both a pediatric and psychiatric approach is needed. The treatment must be somatic (nutritional) and psychological (intensive nursing, mother-baby psychotherapy). Two case studies illustrate this rare but impressive picture.

A five-month-old female infant was admitted to the Tropical Metabolism Research Unit with a weight for age of 49% and no evidence of oedema giving rise to a diagnosis of marasmus (Wellcome Classification). The underlying reason for her malnutrition was the Infant Rumination syndrome. This is an uncommon disorder which is thought to have a psychological component. A lack of awareness of the syndrome often leads to delay in diagnosis.

Rumination is a syndrome characterized by repetitive regurgitation of small amounts of food from the stomach. The food is then partially or completely rechewed, reswallowed, or expelled. This syndrome is relatively common in infants and mentally challenged persons, but it also occurs in adults with normal intelligence. The rumination syndrome is an underappreciated condition in adults who frequently receive a misdiagnosis of vomiting due to gastroparesis or gastroesophageal reflux. Difficulties in establishing the correct diagnosis may be caused by a lack of awareness of the condition among ph

In a 3-month-old baby with recurrent vomiting, infantile rumination syndrome was diagnosed on the basis of the typical behavior, absence of any physical or radiological findings and failure of pharmacological treatment. The therapeutic approach, which consisted of daily visits to the clinic by the mother and effective psychological support by the pediatrician and the nurses, caused prompt improvement and indicated the importance of diagnosis and treatment in the ambulatory clinic.
