In S 180 bearing male mice, paclitaxel was rapidly distributed to various tissues within 10 minutes. The highest AUC was seen in the liver, and relatively high in the pancreas, kidney, thymus, intestine, stomach and lung. The concentration of paclitaxel in tumor tissue was not so high early time after administration, but was sustained for a long time with a half life of 12.3 hr. Elimination from the testis and thymus was also slow. The drug level in the brain was very low. The antitumour activity of Ixora coccinea L. (Rubiaceae) flowers was studied in comparison to intraperitoneally transplanted Dalton's lymphoma (ascitic and solid tumours) and Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) tumours in mice. Intraperitoneal administration of 200 mg/kg of the active fraction (AF) of the I. coccinea flower increased the life-span of DLA and EAC ascitic tumour-bearing mice by 113 and 68%, respectively. Nucleoticidin and melanocidins A and B exhibited potent inhibitory activity against 5'-nucleotidases from rat liver membrane and snake venom. Nucleoticidin retarded growth of Sarcoma 180 solid tumor, and melanocidins A and B prolonged the survival period of mice bearing B16 melanoma. OBJECTIVE: Soft tissue sarcomas in the elbow are extremely rare, and they have primarily been described in case series. Definitive concerning the prevalence and prognostic factors of elbow soft tissue sarcomas remain unknown. We examined the outcome of patients with elbow soft tissue sarcomas and identified the relevant prognostic factors.
METHODS: In total, 219 patients with elbow soft tissue sarcomas were identified using data from the bone and soft tissue tumor registry in Japan. Differences in demographics, disease characteristics, treatment and survival were compared among the patients.

The results of the investigations of ACTH, HGH, hydrocortisone, glucagon, C-peptide, insulin in 180 patients with advanced and metastatic melanomas, soft tissue sarcomas, lung cancers and renal cell carcinomas testify to the development of the syndrome of endocrine hyperfunction in patients under whole-body guided hyperthermia as well as of functional pancreas insufficiency. The data presented form a biochemical basis for working out measures to optimally carry out whole-body hyperthermia treatment, aimed at increasing the range of indications for its use in clinical oncology.

Five patients with HIV-associated Kaposi's sarcoma (epidemic KS) were treated with foscarnet 180 mg/kg/day i.v. for 10 days. Four of them suffered from severe immunodeficiency with CD4 cell counts below 30 x 10(6)/l. Three of the patients went into long-term remission of KS. One patient was free of relapse for 12 months and 2 patients are still in remission after an observation period of 13 and 20 months respectively. The results suggest a possible role of foscarnet in the treatment of epidemic KS.

The ethanolic extract of rat skin contains epidermal G1- and G2-chalones which having been added to cell suspension of transplantable squamous-cell cornified carcinoma of mice cervix, inhibits its growth in recipients by 72,6 per cent. The same extract failed to inhibit the growth of transplantable mouse tumours of other histogenesis (hepatoma 22a, leukemia L-1210 and sarcoma 180). When added to cell suspension of transplantable carcinoma of mouse skin which had been anaplized during a long period of transplantation (over 10 years) this extract inhibits its growth by 39,2 per cent only.

Chlorpromazine is a potent inhibitor of calmodulin and can alter the accumulation, metabolism, and incorporation into RNA of several fluoropyrimidine drugs. Using S-180 murine sarcoma cells, the accumulation of the base Fluorouracil and its metabolism to ribonucleotides is enhanced by chlorpromazine treatment, as measured by HPLC. In contrast, the accumulation and metabolism of the nucleoside Fluorouridine was suppressed by chlorpromazine. Cytotoxicity studies revealed that non-toxic concentrations of chlorpromazine were synergistic with Fluorouracil, but were antagonistic with Fluorouridine.

IMR-90 human embryonic lung fibroblasts secrete a tumor cytotoxic factor.
