OBJECTIVE: To develop the algorithm for effective surgical restoration of shoulder joint and neck functions and acceleration of social and labor rehabilitation.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: There were 116 patients with combined consequences of burns of the neck and shoulder joints between 2012 and 2021. These ones amounted to 29.4% of all patients with lesions of the neck or shoulder joints. Simultaneous surgeries with correction of post-burn cicatricial deformities and contractures were performed in 66 patients (56.9%). Age of patients ranged from 18 to 72 years, and 96% of them were employable. Th…

INTRODUCTION: Shoulder arthroplasty is a common treatment for shoulder arthritis. Prosthetic joint infection of the shoulder (PJIS) is a debilitating complication to the patient and the healthcare system. Incidence of infection is 0.98-5% for primary arthroplasty. The mean hospital cost for two-stage revision was approximately $35,824. The aim of this paper is to review the recent literature and collate the latest evidence to aid diagnosis and treatment of this serious complication.
METHODS: A literature review was performed using PubMed and Google Scholar databases. A search strategy was ado

Indications of MR arthrography were analyzed in this prospective study. The aim was to evaluate possible advantages over conventional MRI, establish diagnostic criteria and to analyze its meaning further for the therapeutic management of postoperative patients. MR arthrography was performed in eight patients who had undergone surgical repair of rotator cuff lesions (modified Neer acromioplasty) and in six patients who had undergone arthroscopic therapy of recurrent unidirectional dislocation of the shoulder by combined arthroscopic intra- and extracapsular repair. MR investigations were perfor

Diagnostic and operative arthroscopy of the shoulder joint has gained considerable importance in traumatology and orthopedic surgery over the last years. Injuries of the limbus glenoidalis, in particular traumatic shoulder luxation, injuries of the rotator cuff, infection of the glenohumeral joint and unclear posttraumatic pain are indications for diagnostic and operative arthroscopy. Arthroscopy of the shoulder is a procedure, which offers exact diagnosis and the possibility of immediate surgery at the same time. The technique of the shoulder joint arthroscopy has to be carried out carefully …

In case of the most common anterior-inferior dislocation of the shoulder joint the humeral head is forced out of the glenoidal cavity and tears the capsule. In about 20% of cases the dislocation is complicated by tears of the rotatory cuff, avulsion fractures and lesions of vessels and nerves. Reduction as soon as possible according to the method of Arlt or Hippokrates is recommended to avoid further damage. X-ray examination in 2 directions is necessary to confirm the position of the head. Clinical examination must be done to detect lesions of nerves or vessels caused by the procedure. In cas…

Introduction Shoulder subluxation has an incidence of up to 80% following stroke. It commonly occurs during the flaccid stage due to reduced muscle tone in the rotator cuff muscles, allowing gravitational pull on the humerus and resulting in widening of the acromion-humeral gap. Sling suspension enables partially unloaded active movement of the shoulder joint; however, evidence regarding its effectiveness in subacute stroke patients remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of sling suspension-based active shoulder exercises on shoulder subluxation in subacute stroke patients. M…

INTRODUCTION: Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is characterized by the insidious onset of pain and progressive loss of global active and passive mobility of the glenohumeral joint, which can be treated by non-surgical or surgical methods. This study was done to evaluate the functional outcome of intra-articular (I/A) steroid injection and manipulation of the shoulder joint manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) in frozen shoulder.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was done in a tertiary care hospital in Pokhara, Nepal. A total of 35 patients over 40 years were included in the s…

OBJECTIVE: The primary objective was to determine the population prevalence of glenohumeral joint imaging abnormalities in asymptomatic adults.
METHOD: We systematically reviewed studies reporting the prevalence of X-ray, ultrasound (US), computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) abnormalities in adults without shoulder symptoms (PROSPERO registration number CRD42018090041). This report presents the glenohumeral joint imaging findings. We searched Ovid MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL and Web of Science from inception to June 2023 and assessed risk of bias using a tool designed for pre
