A cross-sectional and longitudinal network analysis approach to understanding connections among social anxiety components in youth.

As proposed in a prominent developmental model, social anxiety has different manifestations: social fear, shy temperament, anxious cognitions, and avoidance of social situations. Drawing from this model, we used the network approach to psychopathology to gain a detailed understanding of specific social anxiety components and their associations. The current article investigated (a) how social anxiety components are interconnected within a network, and (b) the consistency of the network over time, in a community sample of children and adolescents. Data from 3 waves of a longitudinal study were u

A network analysis of mental, somatic health, and perceived social supports among Chinese pregnant and postpartum women.

BACKGROUND: The mental burdens among pregnant and postpartum women were exacerbated by cultural expectations and policy shifts, which can be mitigated by social support. OBJECTIVE: To identify the networks of comorbid somatic and mental health, diverse sources of support (interpersonal and policy), and symptom-support interactions in pregnant and postpartum women. METHODS: Participants were recruited from seven Chinese tertiary hospitals. Health conditions, supports, and combined system networks were estimated. Core symptoms and support sources were identified via centrality indices. RESULT

Effects of non-pharmacological interventions for social participation in stroke survivors: a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The optimal non-pharmacological intervention for improving social participation after stroke remains unclear. This network meta-analysis (NMA) aimed to compare the effectiveness of different interventions and identify the best approach. METHODS: Cochrane Library, Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, CINAHL plus, PsycINFO, Scoups, Wanfang database, CQVIP, and CNKI were systematically searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs), since their inception to March 2025. The primary outcome was social participation scores immediately postintervention. We employed frequentist-based NMA for

Quantitative analysis of the transmission dynamics of an adenovirus outbreak in a physical training school based on a dynamic social network.

Adenovirus type 7 (AdV-7) frequently causes outbreaks in crowded settings such as military barracks and schools. This study seeks to deepen understanding of individual-level virus transmission mechanisms and examine how intervention timing and stringency shape epidemic trends. Methodological innovations in model construction allow refined description and reconstruction of transmission processes, offering methodological support for epidemic analysis and prediction. Based on the framework of this model, additional simulation models tailored to other scenarios can also be developed. We constructe

Addicted to socialising and still lonely: A comparative, corpus-driven analysis of problematic social networking site use.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Problematic Social Networking Site Use (PSNSU) is not a formally recognised addiction, but it is increasingly discussed as such in academic research and online. Taking a quantitative, exploratory approach, this study aims to (1) determine whether PSNSU is presented like clinically defined addictions by the affected community and (2) address how well measurements of PSNSU fit with the thematic content found within the associated discourse. METHODS: Four corpora were created for this study: a corpus concerning PSNSU and three control corpora concerning established addiction

The Influences of Adverse Childhood Experiences and Social Support on Male Teenagers' Gaming Motivation: A Moderated Network Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Strong gaming motivations can lead to gaming-related health problems, but how gaming motivations are formed is unclear. Therefore, we examined the impact of early life experiences on gaming motivations. METHODS: Questionnaire data on the gaming motivations, adverse childhood experiences, and social support of 2,171 teenaged online game players were modeled using moderated network analysis. RESULTS: All adverse childhood experience components positively correlated with achievement and escapism motivations (weight range: 0.08-0.40). Social support from friends (weight = -0.04) ne

Establishing a role of the semantic control network in social cognitive processing: A meta-analysis of functional neuroimaging studies.

The contribution and neural basis of cognitive control is under-specified in many prominent models of socio-cognitive processing. Important outstanding questions include whether there are multiple, distinguishable systems underpinning control and whether control is ubiquitously or selectively engaged across different social behaviours and task demands. Recently, it has been proposed that the regulation of social behaviours could rely on brain regions specialised in the controlled retrieval of semantic information, namely the anterior inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) and posterior middle temporal g

Network analysis of parental involvement, parent-child relationships, emotional and behavioral problems, and social media addiction in adolescents.

Adolescence is a critical developmental period during which parental involvement, parent-child relationships, emotional and behavioral problems, and social media addiction may interact in complex ways. This study aims to explore the network structure of these factors to identify key domains and their interconnections. A total of 668 adolescents participated in this study, with data collected in October 2024 through surveys. The Parental Involvement Scale, Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), Parent-Child Closeness Scale, and Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS) were used to a

Peer-learning and support among health policy and systems research actors in West Africa: a social network analysis.

BACKGROUND: Health policy and systems research (HPSR) is vital for strengthening health systems, yet its development in West Africa remains constrained by limited capacity. To strengthen capacity, the West African Network of Emerging Leaders in Health Policy and Systems (WANEL) was created to foster peer learning and cross-country collaboration among early- and mid-career HPSR actors. This study used Social Network Analysis (SNA) to examine WANEL's structure and functioning, with the aim of understanding how well the network supports its capacity and HPSR field-building goals. METHODS: A cros…

Social help or harm? An egocentric network analysis of college peer influence on body dissatisfaction and eating pathology.

Previous research has shown that peers influence college women's body attitudes and behaviors. However, many of these studies have examined similarities among peer dyads or specific groups and have not evaluated peer behaviors that may be particularly influential (e.g., appearance-focused social media use). The current study used an egocentric social network approach (i.e., participants identify and report on their social networks) to examine the collective influence of college social networks on body dissatisfaction and eating pathology. College students (N = 94; 94% identified as a cisgender
