[Efficacy of a new microencapsulated pancreatin versus a conventional preparation, in the treatment of steatorrhea of pancreatic origin].

Malabsorption of pancreatic origin has been traditionally treated with pancreatic enzymes, but the effectiveness of treatment has been limit … e diagnosis was chronic alcoholic pancreatitis in 10 cases and idiopathic pancreatitis in 2, with a steatorrhea of more than 10 g/24 h and a basal gastric pH less than 2.5. The duration of treatment was 3 weeks, using a diet containing 100 g of fat. The first week served as a control, and in the 2nd and 3rd treatment was given in the form of 7 capsules of Cre …

Steatorrhea and Hyperoxaluria in Severely Obese Patients Before and After Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Hyperoxaluria after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is generally attributed to fat malabsorption. If hyperoxaluria is indeed caused by fat malabsorption, magnitudes of hyperoxaluria and steatorrhea should correlate. Severely obese patients, prior to bypass, ingest excess dietary fat that can produce hyperphagic steatorrhea. The primary objective of the study was to determine whether urine oxalate excretion correlates with elements of fat balance in severely obese patients before and after RYGB. METHODS: Fat balance and urine oxalate excretion were measured simultaneously …

Transient neutral fat steatorrhea, elevated sweat chloride concentration, and hypoparathyroidism in a child with celiac disease.

A patient with celiac disease and the unusual features of transiently elevated sweat chlorides, reversible exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, symptomatic hypocalcemia/hypomagnesemia, and transient secondary hypoparathyroidism is presented along with a brief discussion of the physiologic mechanisms thought to underlie their development.

Pancreatic steatorrhea, malabsorption, and nutrition biochemistry: a comparison of Japanese, European, and American patients with chronic pancreatitis.

This article reports on steatorrhea, daily food intake, and fecal substances other than fecal fat (e.g., neutral sterols, bile acids, short-chain fatty acids) in pancreatic exocrine dysfunction arising from chronic pancreatitis (CP) in Japanese. European, and American patients. Changes in upper small intestinal pH and lipase secretion, plasma fatty acid profiles, serum fat-soluble vitamin levels and symptoms of their deficiency, and nutritional status are discussed in detail. Treatment of pancreatic steatorrhea is described. Throughout this study, we compared characteristics of maldigestion an…

Steatorrhea and hyperoxaluria occur after gastric bypass surgery in obese rats regardless of dietary fat or oxalate.

PURPOSE: We determined the effect of dietary fat and oxalate on fecal fat excretion and urine parameters in a rat model of Roux-en-Y gastric … ne pH (p <0.001). CONCLUSIONS: In this Roux-en-Y gastric bypass model high fat feeding resulted in steatorrhea, hyperoxaluria and low urine pH, which were partially reversible by lowering the dietary fat and oxalate content. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass rats on normal fat and no oxalate diets excreted twice as much oxalate as age matched, sham operated controls. …

[Self-limited steatorrhea and chronic autoimmune hepatitis type I. The Group for the Study of Viral Hepatitis and AIDS].

Active chronic hepatitis is very infrequent in Spain. Its autoimmune pathogenesis is supported by the coexistence of autoimmune features, its usually good response to immunosuppressive treatment and the frequent coexistence of other processes of autoimmune etiology. The infrequent cases of steatorrhea observed may usually be found in the presence of severe colostasis or in association with other diseases such as celiac disease. The presence of sever anemia is also infrequent being observed on hemolysis of digestive bleeding. A case of autoimmune type I chronic hepatitis observed in a 14-year o…
