PURPOSE: Almost 20% of children and adolescents who attend in mental health centres are witnesses of domestic violence (WDVs). It would therefore be clinically useful to have an appropriate screening instrument for this population, such as the PTSD-CBCL. Our aim here was thus to assess the psychometric properties of relevant tools by determining their internal consistency, sensitivity/specificity, and positive/negative predictive values in our centre's population.
METHODS: We recruited 194 parents of children aged 4-16 at the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service of the Hospital Sant Joa

OBJECTIVE: To establish factors associated with ICD-11 post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex PTSD (CPTSD) in a large sample of adults with lived experience of psychiatric disorder and examine the psychiatric burden associated with the two disorders.
METHODS: One thousand three hundred and five adults were recruited from the National Centre for Mental Health (NCMH) cohort. ICD-11 PTSD/CPTSD were assessed with the International Trauma Questionnaire (ITQ). Binary logistic regression was used to determine factors associated with both PTSD and CPTSD. One-way between-groups analysis of

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) develops from traumatic events. For several decades, acute coronary syndrome, including myocardial infarction, has been recognized as potentially traumatic, due to its sudden, painful onset and the feelings of life-threatening and helplessness it provokes. Several studies have been conducted to estimate the prevalence of PTSD following a myocardial infarction as well as to determine predisposing factors, to identify and treat those affected, and even prevent it in those at higher risk. The aim of this article is to raise awareness of this issue and provide

Addressing the spectrum of mental health requires innovative methods. Network theory views psychopathological symptoms as complex dynamic systems, potentially allowing for the identification of better monitoring and intervention targets. This article advocates for the Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) algorithm to construct symptom networks, building on two recent studies on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The studies used a cohort of 55,632 Japan Ground Self-Defense Force personnel who completed the Impact of Event Scale-Revised annually from 2013 to 2018. The first study applied DTW to creat

Patients with arterial hypertension (AH) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are currently a little-known category of patients among practicing physicians. The incidence of the combination of AH and PTSD in the general population and among cardiac patients is clearly underestimated, and their mutual influence, features of the development and course, and the choice of drug treatment are insufficiently covered in the Russian medical literature. This article presents a review focusing on the clinical characteristics of the development and course of AH in patients with PTSD and approaches to

INTRODUCTION: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is associated with exposure to traumatic events, especially in the military setting. However, patients who experience stroke may develop anxiety about their stroke event and may re-experience transient neurological symptoms as a result. A significant portion develop the persistent and disabling symptoms of PTSD.
METHODS: At the University of South Florida, we conducted a single-center, IRB-approved, observational pilot study of 20 adult patients who were diagnosed with stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA) in the previous 31 days to 1 ye

Trauma is a complex and often contentious psychopathological construct. The term trauma has become ubiquitous within mental health literature and practice. It is often used interchangeably to describe the etiology and the reaction to it. In this article we describe its historical and contemporary conceptualization through a review of the disorders that claim a direct relation to traumatic events whether or not they are recognized by official psychiatric classification systems. We critically evaluate the extent to which current understandings of traumatic stress disorders capture the diversity

INTRODUCTION: Fibromyalgia (FM) is considered an idiopathic condition characterised by diffuse and chronic musculoskeletal pain. Emerging evidence suggests that exposure to traumatic events may be associated with an increased likelihood of developing this multifaceted disorder. This systematic review examines the role of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in the etiology and progression of FM, aiming to synthesise findings from published literature on the PTSD-FM association over the past thirty years.
METHODS: This review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. Relevant st

Background: Sleep disturbances are widely reported in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Although Dream Enactment Behaviour (DEB) has long been associated with PTSD, its high prevalence has only recently been recognized, sparking discussions about the classification of trauma-related sleep disorders. The impact of DEB on treatment outcomes in PTSD remains unexplored. Objective: To investigate the role of DEB in functional impairment, symptom severity, subjective sleep disturbances, and treatment response in patients with PTSD, and how it relates to Trauma-Associated Sleep Disorder (TASD). Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) occurs when an individual experiences a traumatic event that exceeds the limits of psychological endurance. Many veterans experience PTSD. PTSD can negatively impact veterans' quality of life, functioning, life satisfaction, and overall well-being. It is important to analyze the concept of PTSD in the veteran population. This concept analysis aimed to investigate the defining attributes, a model case, antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents related to the concept of PTSD among veterans. Walker and Avant's method was used to guide this concept an

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) was first introduced as a diagnosis by the American Psychiatric Association in 1980. This diagnosis, included in the 3rd edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association (DSM-III), was to be considered after someone was exposed to a traumatic event "outside the range of usual human experience and would be markedly distressing to almost anyone." Since then, trauma survivors have been identified as being at risk for the development of post-traumatic stress symptom (PTSS) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Despi

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can occur following exposure to a traumatic experience. An estimated 12 million U.S. adults are presently affected by this disorder. Current treatments include psychological therapies (e.g., exposure-based interventions) and pharmacological treatments (e.g., selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)). However, a significant proportion of patients receiving standard-of-care therapies for PTSD remain symptomatic, and new approaches for this and other trauma-related mental health conditions are greatly needed. Initially believed to be specific to humans emerging from life-threatening events, Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been found to occur in wild animals and can also be experimentally induced in laboratory rodents. This article aims to highlight and discuss the evolution and relevance of animal models in PTSD research. Studies by LeDoux, Davis, and McGaugh have made significant contributions to our understanding of PTSD. By focusing on fear responses in rodents and aversive Pavlovian conditioning, they suggested that PTSD could result from excessively efficient aversive learning proces

Trauma exposure is one of the most important and prevalent risk factors for mental and physical ill-health. Prolonged or excessive stress exposure increases the risk of a wide variety of mental and physical symptoms, resulting in a condition known as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The diagnosis might be challenging due to the complex pathophysiology and co-existence with other mental disorders. The prime factor for PTSD development is exposure to a stressor, which variably, along with peritraumatic conditions, affects disease progression and severity. Additionally, many factors are tho

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder that causes significant functional impairment and is related to altered stress response and reinforced learned fear behavior. PTSD has been found to impact three functional networks in the brain: default mode, executive control, and salience. The executive control network includes the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and lateral PPC. The salience network involves the anterior cingulate cortex, anterior insula, and amygdala. This latter network has been found to have increased functional connectivity in PTSD. Transcranial Mag

INTRODUCTION: The prevalence of burnout among anesthesiology residents is 41%-51%. Burnout is associated with medical errors, physician turnover, and substance use disorder. Social support and wellness may reduce burnout, but a barrier is support persons' lack of understanding of an anesthesiologist's work demands. We developed the Family Anesthesia Experience (FAX) to help support persons best support their resident.
METHODS: FAX consisted of a 4-hour event with hands-on experience, didactics portion, and panel discussion. Participants learned about a typical day in the life of an anesthesio
