Landfill leachates are an important pool of organotin compounds (OTCs). Several studies have been performed on the occurrence of OTCs in landfill leachates, but only a few of them report degradation and biomethylation processes by bacteria. Comparative studies have been carried out on the viability of cells culture and production of collagen on lactide/glycolide copolymers synthesized using zirconium or tin initiators. Complexing of reduced 99mTc, 99Tc and of 113Sn(II) by pyrophosphate was studied, using the in vivo distribution in the rat as an indicator for complex formation. 99mTc-pyrophosphate was only formed at very low technetium concentrations, otherwise colloid formation occurred. Reduced 99mTc in trace amounts and 113Sn(II) complexed equimolarly with pyrophosphate were concentrated in bone and excreted in urine in comparable amounts. This study details the first use of well-defined low-valent p-block metal hydrides as catalysts in organic synthesis. The potentiometric response characteristics of electrodes based on organic trialkyl/aryl-tin compounds combined with various amounts of anionic additive (NaTFPB) were investigated in 0.1M bis-Tris-H(2)SO(4) buffer solution at pH 7.0. From conversions of Ar2SnH2 (Ar = Tripp, Dipp; Tripp = 2,4,6-Triisopropylphenyl, Dipp = 2,6-Diisopropylphenyl), and a bismuth(III) amide, Bi[N(SiMe3)2]3, we isolated the first representatives of mixed, uncharged Bi/Sn clusters, Bi8Sn3Ar6. Along with unprecedented bicyclo[2.2.0]hexanes, (HAr2Sn)2Sn2Bi4, these have been characterized by single crystal X-Ray diffraction, heteronuclear NMR, vibrational and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Quantum-chemical calculations were carried out in order to understand bonding within the isolated polyhedral compounds.
