Both B- and T-cells are contained in the palatine tonsils of patients suffering from chronic tonsillitis. The former respond by blast-transformation to the in vitro stimulation by the streptococcus and staphylococcus antigens and the latter--to PHA, and produce soluble substances inducing blast-transformation reaction of lymphoid cells of the palatine tonsils under the effect of streptococcus and staphylococcus antigens.

The changes in the electrophoresis motility (EPM) of lymphocytes in the tonsils of patients with chronic tonsillitis were assessed using the method of microelectrophoresis. Tonsil lymphocytes of healthy volunteers were used as controls of these experiments. During this investigation it was shown that the average value of EPM of lymphocytes in the control group was -0.98 +/- 0.02 mumol.cm.V-1.S-1. This report is a preliminary exploration of the concept of a "Tonsillectomy Index" (TI) as an objective tool for quantifying the indications for tonsillectomy for recurrent acute tonsillitis (AT). Tuberculous of the oral cavity is rare, the attack tonsil remains exceptional. We report case a 25-year-old young male, who consults for an ulceration of the left unilateral tonsil, with a homolateral adenopathy jugulo-carotidien. The examination anatomopathologic of the tonsil biopsy revealed a tuberculous of the tonsil. The patient profited from an antituberculous treatment, the evolution was good.

BACKGROUND: The recurrence of streptococci acute tonsillitis is a complication that often motivates the tonsillectomy. We studied the colonisation of tonsils and adenoids by S. pyogenes and other beta haemolytic streptococci in both surgical indications, recurrent tonsillitis and tonsillar hypertrophy.
