Treatment of trichuriasis with mebendazole 500 mg for three days, and 100 mg twice daily for three days, yielded cure rates of 93.9 and 88.9% in Thai patients, while the cure rates in Karen patients were 96.2 and 95.5% respectively. The total number of Thai and Karen trichuriasis patients were 60 and 48, when tested by modified cellophane thick smear Kato-Katz technique. There were no significant differences among the two groups of patients and doses of treatment (p > 0.05).

We studied asymptomatic primary schoolchildren in northeastern Malaysia with light to moderate trichuriasis to determine the effect of albendazole treatment on growth rates and TNF-alpha levels. We undertook a control program for STH infections … on schoolchildren in Myanmar failed to control T. trichiura infection. For a successful control of trichuriasis in Myanmar, new MDA strategies, using a modified albendazole regimen (multiple daily doses for 2 or 3 days) or an alternative anthelmintic drug, such as oxantel pamoate, is strongly recommended.

To search for new antihelminthics, the new compound N-[3-chloro-4-[(1-ethyl-2-benzimidazolyl) thio]phenyl]-2-hydroxy-3,5-dibromobenzamide (the agent G-1724) was synthesized and tested by using the models of trichocephaliasis (Trichocephalus muris) and trichinosis (Trichinella spiralis). The tests demonstrated that this agent had an nematocidal effect (71-78%).

A comparative study of the efficacy of albendazole and mebendazole was carried out in Pattani Province in the southern part of Thailand. One hundred and ninety-six patients with single or multiple infections with Ascaris, hookworm, and Trichuris were randomized into 4 groups for different treatments. Prevalence of intestinal helminthiasis: 1 223 stool specimens are examined in Louda and 690 in Damesma (Kaya, Upper-Volta). In this sample eggs of N. americanus are seen in 14,7% of the specimens in Louda and 9,3% in Damesma. Eggs of H. nana are seen in 10% of the specimens, for the two villages. Eggs of T. saginata are seen in 7.4% of the specimens of the two villages. And eggs of A. lumbricoides, T. trichicera are found inters then 0.5% of the specimens.
