Postmenopausal women with negative personality characteristics are at an increased risk of psychological disorders, yet little is known about the mechanism underlying the relationship between type D personality and psychological distress in postmenopausal women with coronary disease. This study assessed the mediating roles of perceived social support and self-perceived burden in the relationship between type D and psychological distress based on the equity theory and stress-buffering model. Demographic characteristics, type D, psychological distress, perceived social support, and self-perceive

An epidemiological cross-sectional survey study was performed among female student teachers and teachers for primary education, using a general questionnaire, the Type D Scale 16 (DS16) and Voice Handicap Index (VHI). Type D personality is the combination of high 'negative affectivity' and high 'social inhibition', and the DS16 has been considered to be a reliable and valid measure of these two stable personality traits. The objectives of the study were to assess the VHI of type D subjects in comparison to non-type-D subjects, to explore the utility of the DS16 and the VHI to assess whether su

Background: The COVID-19 (Coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic has prompted extensive research into lingering effects, especially in 'Long COVID' patients. Despite exploration, contributing factors remain elusive; Objective: This study explores the potential link between distinctive personality profiles, particularly type D personality, and an increased risk of Long COVID; Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study at Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center's Post-COVID clinic analyzed data from 373 Long COVID patients through comprehensive questionnaires covering Long COVID syndrome, Fibromyalgia

KEY POINTS: Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) adherence is low among individuals with obstructive sleep apnoea.Type D personality and high scores on the depression and hypochondriasis scales on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) have been identified as factors contributing to non-compliance with CPAP.Further research into personality type may assist in understanding why some people adhere to CPAP, while others fail.
UNLABELLED: Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is a condition characterised by repetitive, intermittent partial or complete collapse/obstruction of the up

Introduction Nightmare proneness, a trait-like disposition to experience frequent nightmares, has been strongly related to psychological distress. The aim of the present study was to examine if cardiac symptoms and hypothetically-related variables, nightmares, and perceived physical health could be used to differentiate nightmare proneness and psychological distress. Materials and Methods In the present cross-sectional study, 254 young adults completed measures of nightmare proneness, psychological distress, cardiac symptoms, nonspecific and posttraumatic nightmares, nightmare distress, heal

BACKGROUND: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a multifactorial complex disease. The aim of the present study is to verify whether the personality traits in CAD are associated with coronary artery plaque (CAP) presence and severity in people with no history of cardiovascular disease.
DESIGN: A cross-sectional monocenter study.
METHODS: Seventy five individuals with no history of CAD underwent 64-slice computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA) and were screened for traditional cardiac risk factors and for hostility, anger, and type D personality traits.
RESULTS: In total, 48 patients (64

This review provides a broad overview of the relationship of personality with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). There has been a sustained interest over the last half a century on the issue of relationship between personality traits and CVDs. Type A behavior was the initial focus of inquiry as it was observed that individuals who were competitive, hostile, and excessively driven were overrepresented among patients seeking treatment for CVDs and also were prone to develop coronary artery disease/syndrome. However, the research gradually expanded to assess the relationship of cardiac morbidity wit

AIMS: Brugada syndrome (BrS) is a hereditary arrhythmic disease, associated with sudden cardiac death. To date, little is known about the psychosocial correlates and impacts associated with this disease. The aim of this study was to assess a set of patient-reported psychosocial outcomes, to better profile these patients, and to propose a tailored psychosocial care.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Patients were recruited at the European reference Centre for BrS at Universitair Ziekenhuis Brussel, Belgium. Recruitment was undertaken in two phases: phase 1 (retrospective), patients with confirmed BrS, and

INTRODUCTION: Fibromyalgia (FM) is the second most common rheumatic disease with many effects on patient's quality of life. It has been described as a chronic condition characterized by widespread musculo-skeletal pain, sleep disorders and prominent fatigue. Regarding the role of personality factors in fibromyalgia, researchers have focused both on personality traits and psychopathological aspects showing inconsistent results. In particular, several studies have examined the role of alexithymia in FM patients, a trait of personality characterized by difficulty in identification, recognition an

The aim of this study was to examine depression and anxiety disorders and their characteristic symptoms (anhedonia/low positive affect and anxious arousal, respectively), along with measures of state negative affect (NA) and Type D personality, in relation to cardiac surgery related morbidity. Patients awaiting elective coronary artery bypass graft surgery (n=158; 20.9% female; 11.4% concomitant valve surgery; age M=64.7, SD=10.6) underwent the structured MINI International Neuropsychiatric Interview to determine current affective disorders. AIMS: Ideal cardiovascular health has been defined by the American Heart Association as the absence of disease and the presence of seven key health factors and behaviours. However, little is known about the mental aspects associated with ideal cardiovascular health metrics. The objective of this study was to assess the relationships between psychosocial risk factors and ideal cardiovascular health metrics among Finnish women at municipal work units.
METHOD: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Finland among 732 female employees (mean±SD age 48±10 years) from ten work units in 2014. Ideal

BACKGROUND: Depression, anxiety, distress and Type D personality traits have been implicated in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. Mental health status is associated with arrhythmic events. Esler and Lampert reported that anxiety and distress contribute to the occurrence of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias. ■ Self-reported cardiac symptoms not associated with arrhythmias. ■ High prevalence of anxiety and depression symptoms. ■ Anxiety was correlated with self-reported cardiac symptoms.

OBJECTIVES: This multicenter cross-sectional study was designed to verify whether patient empowerment mediates the relationship between psychosocial factors and diabetes self-management behaviours and HbA1c. Patient empowerment is a key factor improving diabetes management. The mechanism underneath is less clear.
METHODS: We conducted a multicenter cross-sectional study of 2005 type 2 diabetes from five university hospitals across diverse Chinese regions between December 2022 and May 2023. Demographic and lab values came from electronic medical record systems (EMS) while psychological factors

BACKGROUND: Psychosocial risk factors cluster together, but generally a single factor approach has been adopted when studying their influence on health outcomes in cardiac patients. We examined the impact of clustering (i.e. type D personality and anxiety) on depressive symptoms 12 months post percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
DESIGN: Prospective study.
METHODS: Consecutive patients (n=416), treated with PCI with drug-eluting stents, completed the type D Scale and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale anxiety subscale at baseline, and the depression subscale at 12 months.

Studies on the impact of childhood trauma on postpartum depression show inconsistencies and methodological limitations. The present study examines the effect of childhood trauma on depression 12 and 24 weeks after childbirth, while controlling for history of depression, depression symptoms during pregnancy and type D personality. During the third trimester of pregnancy, 210 women completed self-report questionnaires assessing depression (current and/or past episodes), childhood trauma and type D personality, of whom 187 participated in the postpartum follow-up, with depression symptoms being r
