Our primary objective was to compare neonatal and maternal outcomes in women with twin pregnancies, beyond 32 weeks, having a planned vaginal birth or a planned caesarean section (CS). BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to analyze retrospectively the treatment of patients referred for carotid artery stenosis to a vascular surgical unit in the 1990's. Main attention was paid to the appropriateness of the indications for CEA.

BACKGROUND: Through the Choosing Wisely Canada (CWC) campaign, national medical specialty societies have released hundreds of recommendations against health care services that are unnecessary, i.e. present little to no benefit or cause avoidable harm. Despite growing interest in unnecessary care both within Canada and internationally, prior research has typically avoided taking a national or even multi-jurisdictional approach in measuring the extent of the issue. This study estimates use of three unnecessary services identified by CWC recommendations across multiple Canadian jurisdictions.

Ectopic thymic tissue is a rare finding and a rare cause of lateral neck masses. Here, we present a case of a 3-month-old male infant with a painless left sided submandibular mass. The case highlights the diagnostic power of ultrasound in differentiating ectopic thymic tissue from other pediatric neck masses, often rendering more expensive or invasive imaging unnecessary or potentially counterproductive and allowing to avoid unnecessary procedures and possible complications.

Use of an automated reminder for an order to continue or to discontinue a urinary catheter resulted in a significant increase in the percentage of urinary catheters justified by an order and the percentage of urinary catheter discontinuation orders increased. This is an essential first step toward reducing inappropriate urinary catheter use.
