In this surgical teaching video, we demonstrate the technique of robot-assisted uterine anastomosis combined with low anterior resection in a 27-year-old patient with T2 node-positive rectal cancer. The patient had undergone uterine transposition for fertility preservation prior to upfront chemotherapy and radiation therapy for rectal cancer. In this video, we review the key steps of both surgical procedures. We emphasize robot trocar placement and docking, demonstrate optimal organ manipulation and tissue handling, and include key operative modifications and pearls for successful perioperativ

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Surgical resection for thymic epithelial tumors has traditionally been performed via a median sternotomy or video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). In recent years, however, robot-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (RATS) has been increasingly adopted as a minimally invasive alternative, with a growing number of reports. This review summarizes the progress achieved to date and outlines future perspectives in robot-assisted thymectomy.
METHODS: This narrative review was conducted through a structured literature search of PubMed, including articles published up to Nov

Simultaneous occurrence of pneumothorax and pneumoperitoneum is a rare event, usually related to traumas or surgical procedures involving the diaphragm. However, clinicians should be aware of the possible onset of these two clinical conditions even in patients without a recent clinical history that can clearly explain them. Cross-sectional imaging techniques are of great importance, providing crucial information about the patient's clinical status and guiding the following patient management. This work describes a unique case of a sudden occurrence of simultaneous pneumothorax and pneumoperito

We introduced video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for chest disorders in our institution in March, 1992. At first, many of the subjects' disorders were non-malignant diseases such as spontaneous pneumothorax, but later we started to perform this procedure for lung cancer and mediastinum neoplasm, with improved result over thoracoscopic surgical procedures. Now most of the chest disorders at our institution are treated with VATS. However, many kinds of complications due to manual techniques and instrument troubles surfaced during this period. Therefore, in this article we would like to

A video-assisted surgical technique for benign anterior mediastinal lesions is described. In 3 patients, the Laparolift system was used to lift the lower sternum before resection. This operation is less invasive and cosmetically more pleasing than median sternotomy. Unlike thoracoscopy, this procedure avoids opening the chest and can be performed in patients with pleural adhesions or pulmonary insufficiency in whom differential lung ventilation is impossible. At present, this technique is considered suitable only for benign lesions.

INTRODUCTION: Cervical exploration to identify the four parathyroid glands was considered to be the gold standard for management of primary hyperparathyroidism. In recent years, advances in preoperative localizing techniques have led to the use of more targeted, minimally invasive procedures to remove parathyroid glands. We present our series of patients who underwent Minimally Invasive Video-Assisted Parathyroidectomy (MIVAP) procedures and our results in treating primary hyperparathyroidism.
METHODS: Patients who underwent video-assisted parathyroidectomy were identified from a prospectivel

BACKGROUND: After the introduction of endoscopic techniques to other surgical fields like general surgery, gynecology and thoracic surgery, cardiac surgeons sought their own methods of using minimally invasive techniques.
OBJECTIVES: To examine whether this approach is less invasive and yields better results, more desirable cosmetic results, and a more rapid and complete rehabilitation, maintaining safety, efficacy, and outcome equivalent to those of more established procedures, such as median sternotomy.
METHODS: From January 2000 to July 2001, 22 patients underwent video-assisted port-acce

In Japan, robot-assisted surgery for malignant lung tumors, benign mediastinal tumors, and malignant mediastinal tumors has been covered by the national health insurance since 2018. Hence, the number of domestic robotic surgical procedures is increasing. Recently, we introduced endoscopic surgery such as video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) via a subxiphoidal approach for thymectomy. Here, we compared VATS and robotic surgery via a subxiphoidal approach in terms of clinical factors. During the study period, 5 consecutive patients who underwent robotic thymectomy and 24 patients who unde

The standard of care for esophageal malignancies has evolved over the years from open transthoracic esophagectomy to a minimally invasive approach due to the reduction in surgical trauma and significant impact on postoperative outcomes. Minimally invasive approaches include video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery and robot-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. These minimally invasive approaches have an attendant learning curve that early-career surgeons are required to negotiate before achieving proficiency in the procedure. Recurrent laryngeal nerve injury is a particularly significant problem, espec

STUDY OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate a laparoscopic vaginal-assisted nerve-sparing radical trachelectomy.
DESIGN: An edited educational video, including a step-by-step description of the procedure.
SETTING: Radical trachelectomy is the main surgical indication for selected cases of initial cervical cancer with a fertility-sparing approach. Although transvaginal access is the most traditional route, this technique has not gained widespread acceptance because of the complexity of the ureteral dissection and the limited amount of resected parametrial tissue. This video describes a laparoscopic techn

UNLABELLED: Introduction/Study Goals: Thoracic sympathectomy is considered to be the most effective treatment for hyperhidrosis, a procedure traditionally performed under general anesthesia. Nowadays it's a minimally invasive procedure, which makes it possible to perform under sedation with local anesthesia. The goal in this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of this anesthetic technique in video-assisted thoracic sympathectomy.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study took place in Centro Hospitalar Universitário Lisboa Norte, between June 2017 and September 2019. The anesthetic technique co

AIM OF THE VIDEO/INTRODUCTION: The aim was to demonstrate our minimally invasive technique for excision of eroded transvaginal cervical cerclage suture through the bladder mucosa using a suprapubic-assisted transurethral approach. Transvaginal cervical cerclage is a common treatment for cervical insufficiency in pregnancy. Complications such as erosion are rare, as the duration of treatment is typically several months, with cerclage placement in the second trimester and complete removal prior to the onset of labor. Retained suture can lead to erosion through the vaginal epithelium and into oth

BACKGROUND: Minimally invasive and video assisted mitral valve surgery has been used widely since beginning of 20th. Different reduced surgical approaches allowed replacing or repairing a mitral valve sparing sternal incision. Nevertheless the most used strategy has been in the last years the right mini thoracotomy and the extra thoracic cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). The main goal is avoiding sternal approach for mitral valve procedures and improve postoperative course of the patients. Some postoperative complication likes blood loss, need for transfusion, prolonged intubation and infection ha

Hysterectomy is a frequent gynecological surgical technique. With the extensive application of robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery, the feasibility of robot-assisted transvaginal natural orifice translumenal endoscopic surgery (v-NOTES) has been demonstrated in various benign gynecologic procedures, including hysterectomy, endometriosis excision, myomectomy, sacrocolpopexy, as well as oncologic surgery. But they are all multi-port straight-arm robots. We report a case of a patient who underwent Single-Port surgical robot-assisted v-NOTES hysterectomy with pneumoperitoneum-free technique to dem
