This research details the development of a highly efficient quadrupedal DNA walker designed for the detection of food contaminants. A cruciform DNA probe was synthesized through a straightforward methodology. Upon specific recognition between target analytes and aptamer sequences, the quadrupedal DNA walker is activated. The antifungal efficacy of nerol (NEL) has been proved against Aspergillus flavus by using in vitro and in vivo tests. The mycelial growth of A. flavus was completely inhibited at concentrations of 0.8 μ L/mL and 0.1 μ L/mL NEL in the air at contact and vapor conditions, respectively. Co-contamination of foods with multiple mycotoxins highlights the need for broad-spectrum detoxification enzymes.
