AIM: Preservation of ridge dimensions is the important aspect after tooth extraction for prosthetic and implant rehabilitation. Titanium-platelet rich fibrin (T-PRF) is an autologous biomaterial, and when used with bone graft it could enhance the bone regeneration. Hence, the aim of this study was to evaluate the combined effect of T-PRF with nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite (Nano-HA) and T-PRF with demineralized bone matrix (DMBM).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty systemically healthy patients were included in the study and were randomly assigned into two groups. Ten patients were treated with at

Ridge bone resorption is a common event that occurs in tooth loss areas and that can happen in different degrees. The harvesting of autogenous bone can significantly increase treatment time and costs, and poses some risks, including postoperative pain, or possibly nerve or arterial injury. The aim of this article is to demonstrate and analyze the use of bone expansion in order to circumvent problems related to bone harvesting. This is done with screws, followed by immediate implant placement. Twenty-one cases are used to define management solutions for this type of technique to enable the late

BACKGROUND: Extensive alveolar bone resorption in the maxilla limits the possibility of successful placement and osseointegration of endosseous implants for future prosthetic rehabilitation. Autogenous bone from the iliac crest may be used as lateral onlays in the atrophic maxilla, both as block and particulate bone. To our knowledge, there is no three-dimensional 2-year follow-up study measuring the volumetric reduction of the augmented areas comparing particulate and block bone grafts.
PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to conduct a radiographic 2-year follow-up study, using computed tomogr

To obtain optimal and predictable aesthetics, deficiencies caused by soft and particularly hard tissue loss can be managed by various methods, such as orthodontic tooth eruption, socket preservation, and guided bone regeneration. However, in complex cases, these methods are often insufficient. Here, the authors introduce advanced concepts in aesthetic implant dentistry, such as "Aesthetic Site Foundation", "Aesthetic Guided Bone Regeneration" and "Implant Rectangle" that will guide the clinician in the quest to optimal aesthetic outcomes.

OBJECTIVE: Oral surgery is compounded by safe and well-known techniques and presents a low rate of complications. When the superior alveolar ridge is approached, surgery may result in oroantral fistula or tooth or implant dislocation in maxillary sinus. Those conditions lead to development of the maxillary sinusitis that, if underestimated, may evolve in orbital cellulitis and cerebritis or cerebral abscess. Our work aimed to compare the surgical techniques suitable for treatment of those complications and define the better surgical strategy.
METHODS: Between 2005 and 2010, 55 patients, prese

Severe bone atrophy in the mandible may result in weakening of the jaw, unstable dentures, and dysfunction of the inferior alveolar nerve. These conditions were diagnosed in a 65-year-old woman who presented with a severely resorbed mandible. The interforaminal region of the mandible was augmented with an onlay graft harvested from the iliac crest. Four dental implants stabilized the graft by anchoring it inferiorly to the residual mandibular basal bone. Implants later served as abutments for a fixed 12-unit implant-supported prosthesis. The patient was followed for 17 years, during which the

AIM: This case series study was aimed at reporting reconstruction of maxillomandibular large bone defects using patient-specific polycaprolactone/β-tricalcium phosphate (PCL/βTCP) scaffolds.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: In three patients who underwent mandibular segmental resection, scaffolds were implanted to augment load-bearing areas while preserving the inferior alveolar neurovascular bundle continuity (functional bone replacement). In two other patients, PCL/TCP scaffolds were implanted in non-load-bearing areas to separate anatomic spaces (anatomic bone replacement). One anatomic scaffold was u

Alveolar ridge deficiency remains a significant clinical challenge in dental implantology, often necessitating bone augmentation procedures. While autogenous bone grafting is considered the gold standard, its limitations, including donor site complications and limited availability, have prompted the development of alternative bone graft materials. In this study, we fabricated a novel polycaprolactone (PCL)/β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP)@zinc oxide (ZnO) composite scaffold via direct ink writing (DIW) three-dimensional (3D) printing. The scaffold integrates a biomimetic porous architecture with

Tooth extraction inevitably accompanies alveolar ridge resorption with loss of pre-existing tissue morphology. Replacing missing teeth with dental implants has become popular, but restoring anterior teeth with implant-supported restorations is a technique-sensitive task and poses challenges for dentists. With the progress of implant dentistry, the demand for optimal esthetics has become linked with the desire for faster, easier techniques that shorten treatment time and also satisfy patients. Immediate provisionalization of a single-tooth implant provides significant benefits compared with tra
