[Cancer of the anus arising within condylomata acuminata. Apropos of 2 cases. Review of the literature].

Two cases of squamous carcinoma of the anus developing from condylomata acuminata are reported. The general characteristics of condylomata acuminata are reviewed: viral etiology due to HPV virus, histological appearance and role in the the genesis of certain cancers. The association of condylomata acuminata and cancer of the anus is more particularly studied in a review of the literature: etiology, anatomoclinical aspects, treatment and current state of knowledge concerning the oncogenic role of HPV virus at this site.

Malignant melanoma at unusual sites.

The author deals with natural history an clinical appearance of malignant melanomas occurring at unusual sites. Diagnostic problems, treatment and prognosis are discussed on base of pertinent literary data and own experiences described in case reports of the related clientel (1 case with primary melanoma of the breast region; 1 case with melanoma of the tongue; 4 anorectal melanomas; 1 case with a neurotropic melanoma). Finally, the neurotropic variant of malignant melanoma is described, not for its unusual location but rather for its special histological picture and differential-diagnostic im

EUROGIN 2011 roadmap on prevention and treatment of HPV-related disease.

The EUROGIN 2011 roadmap reviews the current burden of human papillomavirus (HPV)-related morbidity, as well as the evidence and potential practice recommendations regarding primary and secondary prevention and treatment of cancers and other disease associated with HPV infection. HPV infection causes ~600,000 cases of cancer of the cervix, vulva, vagina, anus and oropharynx annually, as well as benign diseases such as genital warts and recurrent respiratory papillomatosis. Whereas the incidence of cervical cancer has been decreasing over recent decades, the incidence of anal and oropharyngeal

Treatment of genital condylomata with topical 5-fluorouracil.

Use of topical 5-FU is indicated for therapy-resistant condylomata and for extensive untreated vulvar condylomata. It may be the treatment of choice for extensive or therapy-resistant vaginal condylomata. Applications of 5-FU once weekly to the vagina and twice weekly to the vulva for 10 weeks appear to be as effective as continued regimens but are better tolerated. Perhaps the greatest value of 5-FU lies in periodic application for prevention of recurrences of condylomata removed by surgical methods.

Paget's disease of the anal margin.

A follow-up study of 22 patients with Paget's disease of the anal margin was conducted to determine the prevalence of invasive disease and coexisting visceral carcinomas, cure and survival rates. Seventy-three per cent of the patients suffered from persistent pruritus ani. Seven (32 per cent) patients had malignancy (invasive Paget's disease (n = 5) and coexisting visceral carcinoma (n = 2] and six (27 per cent) developed malignancy (invasive Paget's disease (n = 4) and coexisting visceral carcinoma (n = 2] during follow-up, giving an overall occurrence of malignancies of 59 per cent (95 per c

Fine-needle aspiration cytology of metastatic small cell carcinoma of the colon: a report of three cases.

Small cell carcinoma of the large intestine is a rare, extremely aggressive malignancy often associated with an overlying adenoma. We report three cases of metastatic small cell carcinoma of the colon diagnosed by fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy. Two of the patients were women (ages 33 and 46 yr old) and one was a man (69 yr old). FNA biopsy established the diagnosis of metastatic small cell carcinoma involving the liver (2 cases) and soft tissue of the scapular region (1 case). In one patient, the FNA diagnosis of hepatic metastases preceded identification of the primary site. Subsequentl

[Uro-radiographic investigations in patients with tumors in the large bowel (author's transl)].

At the Istituto Nazionale Tumori, from 1970 to 1974, 154 patients with cancer of the large bowel underwent urography; 80 cases before surgery and 74 after surgery. Preoperative findings, correlated with neoplasia, were found in 4 patients, while non-neoplastic lesions were found in 32 patients. During postoperative evaluation, 21 patients showed lesions by locoregional diffusion of the neoplasia with involvement of the ureters especially by metastatic nodes. Less frequent was the finding of bladder involvement. 30 patients presented lesions due to surgery. Urography is useful for evaluating pa

Comparative Utility of 68 Ga-FAPI PET/CT and 18 F-FDG PET/CT in Assessing Treatment Response in a Case of Metastatic Anal Melanoma With Brain Involvement.

A 59-year-old man with metastatic melanoma and brain metastases underwent brain radiotherapy. Following treatment, he developed neurological symptoms, prompting further evaluation. To assess the treatment response and possibility of Lutetium-177-FAPI therapy, both 18 F-FDG PET/CT and 68 Ga-FAPI-46 PET/CT scans were performed. The 18 F-FDG PET/CT was inconclusive due to posttreatment changes, making it challenging to distinguish between tumor progression and therapy-related alterations. In contrast, the 68 Ga-FAPI-46 PET/CT revealed multiple areas of increased FAPI uptake, indicative of viable

Perianal Intestinal-Type Paget Disease With and Without Invasion, Unassociated With Internal Malignancy: A Distinct Form of Primary Perianal Adenocarcinoma.

Primary perianal adenocarcinoma of intestinal type (PPAI) has been described in recent literature and proposed as a subtype of extramucosal anal adenocarcinoma. Whether this represents a unique entity remains to be elucidated. Herein, we analyzed the clinicopathologic and genomic features of 14 cases of PPAI. Fourteen patients, predominantly older adults with a median age of 73 years (range, 50-85), with a slight woman predilection (5 men and 9 women) were identified. All cases presented with pagetoid intraepithelial growth, and 9 were eventually found to have underlying invasive carcinoma at

Rational treatment options for T1/2N0M0 squamous cell carcinoma of the anal canal: a population-based study combined with external validation.

BACKGROUND: Treatment options for T1/2N0M0 anal squamous cell carcinoma include chemotherapy, radiotherapy, chemoradiotherapy, and local excision, although the optimal treatment method has not been determined. METHODS: The National Cancer Institute Surveillance, Epidemiology and Results database was used to search and screen 1465 patients with cT1/2N0M0 anal squamous cell carcinoma who were clinically diagnosed between 2004 and 2016. Survival analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test. Cox proportional hazards regression analysis was performed to screen independent

Uterine transposition versus uterine ventrofixation before radiotherapy as a fertility sparing option in young women with pelvic malignancies: Systematic review of the literature and dose simulation.

BACKGROUND: (Chemo)radiation may be a required treatment in young women with pelvic malignancies. Irradiation may result in ovarian and uterine failure, compromising the fertility of those patients. While ovarian transposition is an established method to move the ovaries away from the irradiation field, similar surgical procedures regarding the uterus remain investigational. The aim of this study was to carry out a systematic review of the literature on uterine displacement techniques (ventrofixation/transposition) and to simulate the radiation dose received by the uterus in different heights

Randomised clinical trial for the cost-utility evaluation of two strategies of perineal reconstruction after abdominoperineal resection in the context of anorectal carcinoma: biological mesh repair versus primary perineal wound closure, study protocol for the GRECCAR 9 Study.

INTRODUCTION: Abdominoperineal resections performed for anorectal tumours leave a large pelvic and perineal defect causing a high rate of morbidity of the perineal wound (40%-60%). Biological meshes offer possibilities for new standards of perineal wound reconstruction. Perineal fillings with biological mesh are expected to increase quality of life by reducing perineal morbidity. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This is a multicentre, randomised and single-blinded study with a blinded endpoint evaluation, the experimental arm of which uses a biological mesh and the control arm of which is defined by the

Trends in the burden of HPV-associated cancers in Mexico: An analysis from 2011 to 2019.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a major public health concern, responsible for multiple types of cancer. This study aimed to provide an overview of the burden and temporal trends of HPV-associated cancers in Mexico using national hospital discharge and mortality databases from 2011-2019, including cervical, vulvar, vaginal, penile, anal, oropharyngeal, oral cavity, and laryngeal cancers. Hospitalization and mortality rates per 100,000 population were estimated; HPV-attributable fractions applied, and age-standardized temporal trends evaluated using joinpoint regression. Cervical cancer was the l

[Local anesthesia in CO2 laser treatment of disseminated therapy-resistant condylomata].

In an open prospective study 67 patients with refractory genital warts, irrespective of anatomic localization, received CO2-laser vaporization in local anaesthesia, using lidocaine 2% as the local anaesthetic. Sufficient anaesthesia was obtained in all treated patients, with minor pain as the only side effect observed. A single CO2-laser treatment resulted in disappearance of the lesions in 37 (55%) of the patients. Repeated CO2-laser vaporizations in patients with recurrent disease increased the cure rate to 85%. The response rate seemed unaffected by the localization of the warts. It is conc
