Actinomycosis is a chronic, suppurative, granulomatous, fibrosing infection that usually occurs in the cervicofacial region. Actinomyces israelii is the most common organism, with sporadic cases being caused by A. odontolyticus. Even though actinomyces are part of the normal oral flora, infections are rare; rarer still is actinomycotic infection of the facial skin. We describe a case of actinomycosis of the skin of the chin, which histologically mimicked a desmoid tumour.

Treacher Collins syndrome is seen once in 10.000 births. Inheritance is autosomal dominant with variable expressivity. The most prominent symptoms are antimongoloid slant of the eyelids, hypo- or even aplasia of the zygomata, very hypoplastic mandible with receding chin, deformed ear lobes and conductive hearing loss. With two to three operations a considerable improvement can be achieved. The correction of the eyelids is often the most difficult problem.

A 35-year-old woman had a 4-year history of skin depression on the right side of both the forehead and chin. A biopsy specimen showed a normal dermis and an absence of subcutaneous tissue. She also had Poland syndrome on the left side of the body, with loss of the sternocostal portion of the greater pectoral muscle. Significant cosmetic improvement was achieved with dermal fat grafts and silicone implants.

The analysis of X-ray data suggested that the syndrome of "long face" could be caused by three types of changes: (1), preferential lengthening of lower jaw bone; (2), combination of lower micrognathia with increased vertical dimensions of middle facial zone; (3), prevailing anterior extension of the middle facial zone. In all the three groups the vertical dimensions of the chin region of mandible were frequently enlarged.

We discuss imiquimod associated with non-application site mucosal reactions and two of our own clinical cases. In one of our patients, erosive cheilitis developed in a young boy after using topical imiquimod 5% cream for 5 nights weekly on bilateral cheeks, chin, and near vermillion border for molluscum contagiosum. The case is discussed with concerns for imiquimod use in molluscum contagiosum when used near mucosal surfaces.

We report on a boy with a direct tandem duplication of 9(q12-q33) and dolichocephaly, beaked nose with prominent philtrum, deep-set eyes, receding small chin, failure to thrive, developmental delay, simian creases, long fingers, stiff joints, and hypoplastic scrotum. The authors review the literature on the oculo-mandibulo-facial syndrome and present the case of a six-year-old boy with congenital cataracts, microphthalmos, nystagmus, failure to thrive, dysmorphic features with a tiny pinched nose, mandibular hypoplasia, microstomia, double chin, chronic snoring, recurrent respiratory infections and dental problems. Head drop is characterized by marked anterior flexion of the cervical spine. As a result, the affected patient presents with the head tilted forward and the chin resting on the chest. We report a 75-year-old male patient with parkinsonism and head drop caused by isolated myasthenic weakness of the neck extensor muscles. Our case is the second report of isolated head drop as a presenting symptom of myasthenia gravis in a patient with parkinsonism.

This paper reports a patient with a history of breast cancer, who presented with altered sensation to the right lower lip and chin. An orthopantomogram showed a probable dentigerous cyst associated with an unerupted lower wisdom tooth, which was closely related to the inferior dental canal. The tooth and cyst were enucleated under general anaesthesia. The subsequent histopathology report concluded that the cyst contained metastatic adenocarcinoma from a primary breast tumour.

A patient with partial deletion 3p is reported. Only one other patient has been previously reported in the literature. Features the two share include microcephaly, failure to thrive, ptosis, symophrys, a broad and flat nose, a prominent maxilla, an over developed chin, and an increased number of loops on the finger tips. These observations are compared in type and countertype with known observations of trisomy 3p and of 3q duplication/3p deletion.
