We report the in vitro drugs interaction by the resazurin drugs combination microtiter assay (REDCA) of amoxicillin (AMO)/clavulanate (CLAV) with isoniazid (INH), ethambutol (EMB), and rifampicin (RIF) against susceptible and resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates. The addition of AMO/CLAV to classical antituberculosis drugs should be explored as a promising alternative for the treatment of resistant tuberculosis (TB).

We report a case of a 20-year-old man who presented with discreet dysphagia for several months. Indirect laryngoscopy showed a swollen, reddened, thickened epiglottis and smooth, thickened, injected mucosa of aryepiglottic folds and postcricoid region. Thorough work-up was undertaken to exclude specific and non-specific infectious diseases, neoplasm, vascular disorders, immunodeficiency syndrome. Histology revealed actinomycotic colonies in biopsy specimen taken from the epiglottis. The inflammation was resolving gradually during long-term antibiotic-therapy. METHODS: A previously healthy 47-year-old woman presented with left eye purulent discharge and irritation beginning 3 months earlier. The patient had previously been treated with bacitracin and olopatadine without improvement. Bacterial staining, culture, and antibiotic sensitivities were performed from a conjunctival swab.

An increase has been recently noted in the incidence of life-threatening group A beta-hemolytic streptococcal (GABHS) infections in children recovering from varicella. We report our experience with a patient who required pediatric intensive care unit admission because of a serious GABHS infection 1 week after the onset of varicella. Emergency physicians must look for this complication in patients with varicella remaining abnormally febrile and presenting unusual manifestations.
