The influence of growth hormone on granulation tissue formation was investigated in wire mesh cylinders implanted subcutaneously in rats. Two groups of 10 rats (study 1) and 1 group of 12 rats (study 2) were used for the investigation. Growth hormone, 0.02 and 0.2 IU (study 1), 0.05 and 0.2 IU (study 2), or vehicle only, was injected into the cylinders every third day for 16 days. The rate of collagen synthesis in the cell layer fraction of the skin fibroblasts derived from a patient with Marfan syndrome was greater than that in the normal fibroblasts. Neither the relative content of type III collagen nor the level of prolyl and lysyl hydroxylations in type I collagen changed. Intracellular degradation rate of collagen in Marfan syndrome fibroblasts was decreased to one fifth of that in the normal fibroblasts. These results suggest that abnormal collagen metabolism may be related to the pathogenesis of clinical manifestations of Marfan syndrome.

Collagenous gastritis (CG) is a rare entity characterized by subepithelial collagen deposition with increased thickness of >10 μm. Here we report a young-adult female patient presented with upper gastrointestinal symptoms. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed atrophic mucosa in the body of stomach, and a biopsy was taken. Histopathological examination showed increased collagen deposition only in the subepithelial region, which is highlighted by Masson's trichrome stain. Final diagnosis of CG was made.

OBJECTIVE: Collagenous gastritis (CG) is a rare gastrointestinal disorder characterized by the deposition of collagen in the sub-epithelium of the gastric mucosa. CG can cause a variety of symptoms including iron deficiency anemia, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, vomiting, and weight loss.
