Medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA)3, a potent synthetic progestin, was employed as the 3H-ligand to investigate the status of the rabbit uterine progestin receptor under various hormonal conditions. Anthrax lethal toxin is a classical AB toxin comprised of two components: protective antigen (PA) and lethal factor (LF). Here, we show that following assembly and endocytosis, PA forms a channel that translocates LF, not only into the cytosol, but also into the lumen of endosomal intraluminal vesicles (ILVs). The effects of chlorpromazine on either the activity of mouse brain nitric oxide synthase or the induction of lung nitric oxide synthase in mice and rats were studied. Chlorpromazine inhibited the nitric oxide synthase activity in mouse brain cytosol. This effect could be reversed by adding an excess of calmodulin. In addition, chlorpromazine was able to inhibit the induction of lung nitric oxide synthase, in both species, after LPS administration. Furthermore, chlorpromazine also inhibited arginase activity in mouse lung cytosol.

Human placental cytosol contains an androgen binding protein which binds the synthetic androgen methyltrienolone (R 1881) with high affinity (Kd 8.7 nM) and with an average binding capacity of 518 fmol/mg cytosol protein. This study provides further evidence that this protein is distinguishable from classical androgen receptors on the basis of steroid specificity and sulphydryl group sensitivity. Covalent labeling studies have shown this protein, which we have called "the methyltrienolone binding protein", to have a mol. wt of 67,000 daltons.
