The Impact of Oocyte Vitrification on Offspring: a Systematic Review.

Oocyte vitrification is a widespread and well-established assisted reproduction technique that has enabled some patient groups to obtain clinical results equivalent to those using fresh oocytes. However, as the number of babies born from vitrified oocytes has increased, so has the discussion regarding the method's safety for the offspring. Cryogenic oocyte damage caused by chemical, mechanical, and thermal stress has raised concern. In this systematic review, we asked the question of whether oocyte vitrification impacts offspring health. From 2007 to 2021, 13 studies were included in the analy

Spacecraft Maximum Allowable Concentrations for Hydrogen Fluoride.

BACKGROUND: Spacecraft maximum allowable concentrations (SMACs) provide guidance on allowable chemical exposures for nominal and emergency situations aboard spacecraft. SMACs are set to mitigate or preclude potential crew health effects and performance degradation. Hydrogen fluoride (HF) gas is highly irritating. Inhaled HF produces irritation primarily in the upper respiratory tract. HF is not routinely present in spacecraft atmospheres. However, it can be produced in spacecraft due to overheating or combustion events involving materials containing fluorinated organics.METHODS: Toxicological

A Systematic Literature Review of Curcumin with Promising Antileishmanial Activity.

BACKGROUND: Curcumin (CUR) is a bright yellow chemical and it is used as an additive in foods. Recently CUR and its associated bioactive compounds have received much attention in the literature review. The aim of this systematic review is to overview the antileishmanial properties of CUR and its mechanism; perhaps the results of this study will be used for therapeutic and preventive purposes. METHODS: Following the PRISMA guidelines, international databases were systematically searched for studies published until September 2019. Articles related to the subject were selected and included in th

MALDI TOF Mass Spectrometry Imaging of Blood Smear: Method Development and Evaluation.

The aim of this study was to develop and evaluate matrix assisted LASER desorption ionization (MALDI) time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) of blood smear. Integrated light microscope and MALDI IT-TOF mass spectrometer, together with a matrix sublimation device, were used for analysis of blood smears coming from healthy male donors. Different blood plasma removal, matrix deposition, and instrumental settings were evaluated using the negative and positive ionization modes while agreement between the light microscopy images and the lateral distributions of cellular marker compound

A Systematic Review of Bisphenol A from Dietary and Non-Dietary Sources during Pregnancy and Its Possible Connection with Fetal Growth Restriction: Investigating Its Potential Effects and the Window of Fetal Vulnerability.

Bisphenol A (BPA), a ubiquitous endocrine-disrupting chemical (EDC), is increasingly hypothesized to be a factor contributing to changes in fetal growth velocity. BPA exposure may be environmental, occupational, and/or dietary, with canned foods and plastic bottles contributing significantly. Our systematic review aims to evaluate the current literature and to investigate the role of BPA in abnormal fetal growth patterns. A search was conducted in the PubMed and Cochrane databases. A total of 25 articles met the eligibility criteria and were included in this systematic review. Eleven of them f

Medicinal Plants in the Treatment of Peptic Ulcer Disease: A Review.

Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD) is the most common disorder of the stomach and duodenum, which is associated with Helicobacter pylori infection. PUD occurs due to an imbalance between offensive and defensive factors and Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI), Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) and antibiotics are frequently used for the treatment. Recently, medicinal plants have emerged as efficacious, safe and widely available alternative therapies for PUD. The aim of this review was to study the medicinal plants and phytochemicals, which have been used for PUD treatment to evaluate the potential

Natural products applied against hydatid cyst protoscolices: A review of past to present.

Echinococcus granulosus is the causative agent of cystic echinococcosis (CE), which is distributed all around the world. CE is one of the most important global parasitic infectious diseases, both in humans and animals. This parasite causes hydatid cysts that can be lodge at different organs of host such as liver, lung even in heart and brain which may lead to death. Presently, numerous scolicidal chemical agents have been administrated for inactivation of the hydatid cyst contents. Because of increasing resistance and adverse effects of medications include abnormalities of liver function, abdo

Trends in therapeutic drug conjugates for bacterial diseases: a patent review.

Drug conjugates are trend topics in Chemical Biology. These entities are an emerging class of highly potent biopharmaceutical drugs, best known in the field of oncology, that have been also designed as a targeted therapy/diagnosis for the treatment/prevention of several bacterial diseases. Antibiotic resistance is now a major threat to public health, and targeted strategies can reduce resistance. The following review aims at giving an overview of the patented therapeutic innovations covering these areas. Particular attention has been given to antibacterial drug conjugates in the last 30 years.

Clinical studies of red clover (Trifolium pratense) dietary supplements in menopause: a literature review.

Red clover (Trifolium pratense L., Fabaceae) botanical dietary supplements have received much attention recently for their potential use in the treatment of menopause symptoms, maintenance/improvement of bone and cardiovascular health, and reported benign effects on the breast and endometrium. Literature searches of four computerized databases were run to identify clinical studies of red clover botanical dietary supplements. The manufacturer of the red clover products used in the majority of the studies was contacted for unpublished information and/or clarification regarding the chemical conte

Integrated In Silico, In Vivo, and Deep Learning Approaches in the Discovery of Novel Candidate Molecules for Aedes aegypti Control.

The mosquito Aedes aegypti is a primary vector responsible for transmitting major arboviruses, including dengue, Zika, chikungunya, and yellow fever. Increasing resistance to conventional synthetic insecticides, combined with their well-known environmental drawbacks, underscores the urgent need for more selective, sustainable, and effective strategies for vector control. Chalcones have been previously identified by our research group as a promising chemical class of larvicidal agents, with preliminary evidence for distinct mechanisms of action. More recently, an additional strategy for integra

Environmental PET-microplastic exposure and risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: An integrated computational toxicology and multi-omics study.

The escalating severity of global microplastic pollution has triggered significant public health concerns. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), a ubiquitous plastic constituent, extensively permeates aquatic systems, food chains, and daily living environments. However, its potential long-term health impacts, particularly its association with Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), remain poorly understood. In this study, we adopted an integrative network toxicology approach combined with multi-omics data and machine learning to systematically elucidate the mechanistic relationship between expo

Current Drug Discovery in Bioactive Compounds for the Treatment of Diabetes.

INTRODUCTION: Diabetes is a long-term physiological disorder that impacts individuals of all ages and has a profound impact on their daily lives around the globe. There is an urgent need to find and develop new antidiabetic medications due to the rise of resistance and adverse effects associated with the current crop of oral antidiabetic drugs, even though insulin preparations and other synthetic alternatives are readily available. METHODS: The following keywords were used to search the online databases: medicinal plants, diabetes, traditional applications and drug therapy. Consequently, this
