BACKGROUND: As both allergic contact dermatitis and atopic dermatitis (AD) have similar clinical presentations and are characterized by spongiotic dermatitis on skin biopsy, many children with AD are not referred for patch testing and allergic contact dermatitis is underdiagnosed.
OBJECTIVE: To provide updated prevalence data of common contact allergens in children with and without AD.
METHODS: This is a retrospective case-control study using the Pediatric Allergic Contact Dermatitis Registry from 2018 to 2022.
RESULTS: A total of 912 children were included (615 with AD and 297 without AD).

We recently advocated in favour of naming a novel H2-haplotype consisting of Kd, D/Ldm7, I-Ak and I-Ek in the atopic dermatitis (AD) mouse model NC/Nga as "H-2nc." The role of the H2-haplotype in AD development was investigated in H2 b -congenic NC/Nga mice (NC.h2 b/b and NC.h2 b/nc ) established by backcrossing. A severe 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB)-induced dermatitis in NC/Nga was alleviated partially in NC.h2 b/nc and significantly in NC.h2 b/b . The AD phenotype was correlated with thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP)-epidermal expression levels and serum levels of total IgE and IL-18/IL

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic skin condition that can manifest in childhood and persist into adulthood or can present de novo in adults. The clinical presentation of adults with AD may differ among those with pediatric-onset versus adult-onset disease and potential differences between both groups remain to be better characterized. These atypical features might not be encompassed as part of current diagnostic criteria for AD, such as the Hanifin-Rajka (H-R) and the U.K. Working Party (UKWP) criteria. We conducted a retrospective chart review of the electronic medical records of a large, s

BACKGROUND: Atopic comorbidities are common in chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU), yet their impact on clinical presentation and omalizumab response remains poorly defined.
OBJECTIVE: To compare clinical profiles and omalizumab treatment outcomes in CSU patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) and other atopic comorbidities (OACs).
METHODS: This single-center retrospective study included 381 CSU patients treated with ≥3 doses of omalizumab (300 mg/4 weeks) and followed ≥6 months (January 2023-March 2025). Based on the presence or history of atopic comorbidities, patients were stratified into 3

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, relapsing inflammatory skin disease in which dysbiosis of gut and skin microbiota contributes to pathogenesis and severity. Washed microbiota transplantation (WMT)-an improved form of fecal microbiota transplantation with enhanced safety and microbiota quality control-has shown efficacy in a single reported adolescent case. However, clinical data on WMT in AD and its effects on the skin and gut microbiota remain limited.
METHODS: Twenty-three patients with moderate-to-severe AD received at least two courses of WMT between January 2022 and Decem

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease with diverse clinical and histological features. While primarily immune-mediated, genetic studies have also highlighted the role of epithelium-expressed gene abnormalities (e.g. FLG mutations) as a key factor. Approaches to treating AD are multifaceted, involving barrier restoration, local anti-inflammatory treatment and, if needed, systemic immunosuppressive therapy. Genetic variations in the stratum corneum and the immune system are linked to an imbalance between the host and its microbiota, known as dysbiosis. An impaired

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory disease driven by Type 2 (Th2) inflammation. Dupilumab (anti-IL-4Rα) and tralokinumab (anti-IL-13) are effective biologic therapies, but a direct comparison of their longitudinal effects on the systemic proteome is lacking. This exploratory study aimed to identify and to differentially analyze the proteomic signatures in AD patients treated with dupilumab versus tralokinumab.
METHODS: In this prospective, observational study, serum samples were collected from patients with moderate-to-severe AD at baseline and after 12 months of tre

BACKGROUND: Early-stage mycosis fungoides (MF) often presents diagnostic challenges because of its clinical overlap with atopic dermatitis (AD). In clinical practice, we encountered a subset of patients with severe AD who fulfilled the MF diagnostic criteria yet remained clinically indistinguishable from AD and presented refractoriness to advanced therapies. We termed this ambiguous entity "mycosis fungoides-like AD" (mfAD) and sought to determine whether it represents malignant transformation or a distinct inflammatory endotype of AD.
METHODS: Skin biopsies were obtained from 7 patients with

BACKGROUND: Evidence linking atopic dermatitis (AD) to obesity is inconsistent, partly because prior studies overlooked the disease's clinical heterogeneity. This study aimed to identify longitudinal AD and body mass index (BMI) trajectories from childhood to adolescence and examine their concurrent associations.
METHODS: Data from 20,158 children in a Japanese nationwide birth cohort followed for 13 years were analyzed. Group-based trajectory modeling identified five AD phenotypes and three BMI z-score trajectories. Associations were analyzed using sex-stratified multinomial logistic regress

Serum levels of oleoylethanolamide (OEA) have been associated with the severity of pulmonary diseases, and augmented levels of epidermal OEA have been observed in response to low-grade inflammation in human skin. OEA acts as an endogenous ligand for GPR119; thus, the functional roles of GPR119 were investigated using two murine models. We tested effects of OEA and AR231453, a selective synthetic GPR119 agonist on ovalbumin (OVA)-induced allergic asthma and 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB)-induced atopic dermatitis-like models in GPR119 wild-type (WT) and deficient mice. In OVA-induced allergic

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a prevalent chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterized by intense pruritus and complex immunopathogenic mechanisms. Recent evidence has highlighted the critical link between dysregulated intestinal microecology and altered immune responses in AD progression. As essential components of the intestinal microenvironment, metabolites play pivotal roles in various physiological processes. Through metabolomic profiling in an AD mouse model, we identified a significant reduction in canthaxanthin (CTX), a bacterial-derived metabolite naturally present in many foods, in A

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis is a common chronic skin disease in children. Whether telomere length is associated with atopic dermatitis remains unclear. This population-based case-control study aimed to investigate the association between telomere length and atopic dermatitis in school-age children.
METHODS: In this cross-sectional analysis, we included 1084 singleton term-born children (608 males; mean age 6.4 years) from the Longitudinal Investigation of Global Health in Taiwanese Schoolchildren cohort. Telomere length was measured using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, lo

As one of the most prevalent chronic inflammatory skin diseases, atopic dermatitis (AD) increasingly affects the aging population. Amid the ongoing global aging trend, it's essential to recognize the intricate relationship between AD and aging. This paper reviews existing knowledge, summarizing clinical observations of associations between AD and aging-related diseases in various systems, including endocrine, cardiovascular, and neurological. Additionally, it discusses major theories explaining the correlation, encompassing skin-mucosal barriers, systemic inflammation and stress, genes, signal
