BACKGROUND: Allergic contact dermatitis caused by (meth)acrylates is well known, both in occupational and in non-occupational settings. Contact hypersensitivity to electrocardiogram (ECG) electrodes containing (meth)acrylates is rarely reported.
OBJECTIVE: To report the first case of contact dermatitis caused by acrylic acid impurity in ECG electrodes.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patch tests were performed with separate components of electrodes and some (meth)acrylates. This was followed by high-performance liquid chromatography of electrode hydrogel.

Tablets of oleanolic acid (OA) have been approved by SFDA in China as an adjuvant therapy for acute and chronic hepatitis. During the process development of barnidipine hydrochloride, four barnidipine impurities were detected by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with an ordinary column (Agilent ZORBAX Eclipse XDB-C18, 150 mm×4.6 mm, 5 µm). This study examined the effects of fumonisin B1 (FB1) and moniliformin (M) on the heart of Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica). We report a healthy young female who developed septic shock and multiple organ failure soon after receiving a cosmetic surgery for augmentation of breasts under general anesthesia. Blood cultures yielded the growth of pseudomonas cepacia. We describe the clinical course and investigate the causes of the septic shock. Contamination of propofol, the intravenous anesthetic agent, was suspected.

PET packaging materials have been tested for volatile content after exposure to high temperatures. Samples included laminates, bottles, and roasting bags, and were heated at 120 degrees C, 150 degrees C and 230 degrees C for 50 min, according to sample type. We diagnosed Cruetzfeldt-Jakob disease in 34 patients (16 definite, 18 probable) who had received human growth hormone extract for various period of time (mean +/- SD, 2.9 years), but particularly during the period between January 1984 and July 1985, a potential high-risk factor.
