Postpartum symptom clusters in birthing individuals: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Birthing individuals experience various postpartum symptoms which have been associated with adverse health outcomes. Previous systematic reviews have focused on the examination of individual symptoms and their impact on health, which have limited our understanding of postpartum symptom clusters. OBJECTIVE: To examine the compositions of symptom clusters, analytic methodologies and predictors of symptom clusters in birthing individuals up to 1 year postpartum. DESIGN: Systematic review. METHODS: This systematic review was reported following the PRISMA. Five databases were searche

[CT densitometry for the grading of subcutaneous fibrosis after the photon-neutron therapy of malignant salivary gland tumors].

BACKGROUND: To evaluate alternative treatment regimen e.g. neutron therapy determination of treatment efficacy as well as side effects is important. Sensitivity of computed tomography (CT) in detecting changes of connective tissue after neutron therapy was examined. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In the course of their follow-up period (median 45 months) 12 patients with malignant salivary gland tumors who had postoperatively received neutron (1/12) or photon/neutron therapy (11/12) were examined by means of CT densitometry on 3 representative scans in the area of radiotherapy. In 3 ROI (regions of in

Intracranial CT angiography obtained from a cerebral CT perfusion examination.

CT perfusion (CTP) examinations of the brain are performed increasingly for the evaluation of cerebral blood flow in patients with stroke and vasospasm after subarachnoid hemorrhage. Of the same patient often also a CT angiography (CTA) examination is performed. This study investigates the possibility to obtain CTA images from the CTP examination, thereby possibly obviating the CTA examination. This would save the patient exposure to radiation, contrast, and time. Each CTP frame is a CTA image with a varying amount of contrast enhancement and with high noise. To improve the contrast-to-noise r

Effects of temperature on the growth, development, and reproduction of Cyamophila willieti (Hemiptera: Psyllidae) evaluated using the age-stage, two-sex life table.

The study examined key biological and ecological traits of Cyamophila willieti, a major pest of Styphnolobium japonicum, including its circadian mating rhythm, oviposition preference, and temperature-dependent population performance. Using the age-stage, two-sex life table approach, we compared the development, reproduction, and population growth potential of C. willieti under three temperature regimes. Results showed that mating activity followed a bimodal circadian rhythm with peaks at 12:00 and 17:00, while females showed a strong preference for ovipositing on shoot tips. C. willieti achiev

Associated-Factor Studies in Biomedical Research: Foundations, Limitations, and Criteria for Appropriate Use.

Associated-factor studies constitute a substantial portion of the observational epidemiology literature. However, their proliferation has raised important methodological concerns. Many are published without a clear research question, repeat well-established associations, or use causal language to interpret coefficients from exploratory models. This narrative methodological review and critical reflection provides guidance for determining when associated-factor studies add genuine scientific value, how to plan sample size using events per variable, and how to interpret and report results appropr

Public policies for the promotion of paralympic sport in Latin America: a comparative analysis of 10 countries.

INTRODUCTION: This article comparatively analyzes public policies for the promotion of Paralympic sport in ten Latin American countries with outstanding results in the Paralympic medal table during the last Olympic cycle: Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Cuba, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Chile, Peru, and Ecuador. From a social study of disability perspective, it examines how these countries have incorporated sport practiced by persons with disabilities into their regulatory frameworks, what support instruments they have developed, and to what extent they have built institutional mechanisms to f

Why Do Location-Based Preference Effects Occur Within Decision Making? Evidence From the Magician's Force.

Preference research has shown that humans have a bias towards items located in the middle of the visual field and a number of theories have been suggested to explain the phenomenon. The conjuring trick known as the placement force not only exploits this central bias but also shows that the preference is subtly biased to the right of centre. We used the force, together with eye tracking, to test the different theories. In a single experiment, four face-down playing cards were presented on a table in a horizontal row. Participants (n = 137) were asked to select one by pushing it forward. Results

Commentary on: Ultrasound Measurement of Dynamic Changes in Optic Nerve Sheath Diameter During Liposuction Surgery: A Prospective Clinical Trial.

BACKGROUND: Xu et al. recently published a prospective clinical trial examining ultrasound-based optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) monitoring during liposuction surgery in prone and supine positions, demonstrating that prone position significantly elevates ONSD a validated noninvasive surrogate for intracranial pressure (ICP). While this represents a valuable proofs-of-concept for perioperative ONSD monitoring in cosmetic surgery, several methodological concerns warrant discussion. METHODS: We critically appraise four key methodological limitations: (1) exclusive enrollment of female patient

Representing subpopulations with latent profile analysis: a non-technical introduction using exercisers' goal orientation adoption profiles.

Latent profile analysis (LPA) is in the finite mixture model analysis family and identifies subgroups by participants' responses to continuous variables (i.e., indicators); participants' probable membership in each subgroup is based on the similarity between the subgroup's prototypical responses and the person's unique responses. Compared to latent class analysis (LCA) with categorical data, LPA is a better fit for many variables and theories in behavioral medicine, because LPA can have continuous item, sub-scale, or scale scores as indicators, which can enable identifying and examining subgro

Multimodal approaches to postoperative pain management in orthognathic surgery: a comprehensive review.

Effective postoperative pain management in orthognathic surgery is essential for optimizing recovery and patient comfort. This comprehensive review was performed to examine multimodal strategies for managing post-orthognathic surgery pain. A literature search identified 13 studies (with 430 patients); 11 of them were randomized controlled trials. The interventions for pain were categorized into four approaches: cooling therapies, light-based treatments, enhanced recovery protocols, and targeted techniques. A narrative synthesis was performed due to the considerable heterogeneity across the stu

A validated Monte Carlo model for a CdTe-based photon-counting detector at higher flux rates.

Objective.Statistical properties of a CdTe photon-counting detector were simulated using a dedicated Monte Carlo model that includes spatial and spectral correlations. A measurement of the same properties was done to validate the simulation and gain further understanding of the detector.Approach.Photon histories were calculated using a Monte Carlo x-ray simulation program using energy dependent interaction probabilities of the incoming photons. Pulse forms corresponding to photon interaction locations were taken from a pre-calculated pulse shape lookup table and were inserted into simulated pu

Life table analysis of feline polycystic kidney disease in Japan.

Feline polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is an inherited renal disorder observed in various breeds. Analyses of life expectancy and distribution of age at death among cats are not well documented. The current study preliminarily assessed life expectancy, cumulative survival rates, and distribution of age at death in cats with PKD by performing a follow-up investigation. This retrospective cohort study was conducted on 300 cats that tested positive for the feline PKD1 variant (c.10063C >A) in Japan. A life table analysis was performed, and a distribution graph of age at death was generated. The l
