[Facial nerve schwannoma as differential diagnosis of parotid tumors in pediatrics].

Schwannomas are benign tumors which arise from Schwann cells and take place along peripheral nerves. Extra-temporal facial nerve schwannomas are infrequent and present as painless masses in the parotid region, slow-growing and involvement of the facial nerve. Although rare, they should be taken into account as a differential diagnosis in parotid masses in children. Surgical strategies include superficial parotidectomy and surgical tumor resection with electrical nerve stimulation and nerve preservation. The following case describes a paediatric patient treated with the previously mentioned ner

Endoscopic resection of forehead osteomas: Technical notes.

INTRODUCTION: Forehead osteoma is an uncommon benign bone tumor that causes cosmetic disfigurement and occasional pain. Traditional excision directly over the lesion creates a visible scar on the forehead. PROCEDURE: We describe a method of endoscopic resection of the forehead osteoma, via incisions within the hairline. The access incision was hidden behind the frontal hairline and the dissection plane went in the subperiosteal layer. The injury of the nerve branch and vessel can be easily avoided and endorsed by manipulating the endoscope. CONCLUSION: Aesthetic considerations are important

Asymptomatic and infiltrated plaque on the left cheek.

Centrofollicular B Cell lymphomas constitute 25% of non-Hodgkin lymphomas that originate in the skin. They are the second in frequency of those lymphomas with extranodal location after gastrointestinal B lymphomas. The primary cutaneous centrofollicular lymphoma is characterized by the neoplastic proliferation of centrocytes and centroblasts confined to the skin. The prognosis is considered excellent with low probability of extracutaneous dissemination. We present a patient recently diagnosed in our unit with a good response to radiotherapy and complete resolution of the tumor with mild atroph

[Macrocheilia revealing an acute promyelocytic leukemia].

INTRODUCTION: Macrocheilia is a rare presentation for acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). CASE REPORT: A 18 year-old man was referred to our department for an acute swollen lower lip, multiple swollen cervical lymph nodes and spontaneous gum bleeding. The diagnosis of APL was made and the treatment was rapidly started in an intensive care unit. DISCUSSION: APL is often found because of stomatologic symptoms but macrocheilia is rarely reported. APL is a vital emergency.

Reconstructive strategies for dermatofibrosarcomas of the face: role of regenerative dermal templates.

BACKGROUND: Dermatofibrosarcomas protuberans is a challenging cutaneous tumor from an oncologic and reconstructive surgical point of view. Involvement of functionally and aesthetically sensitive areas, such as facial units, in young patients accounts for more demanding cases. An updated evaluation of most beneficial excisional/reconstructive strategies in these cases is still lacking. METHODS: We investigated the potential of regenerative dermal templates in staged postoncologic reconstructive management of a young woman affected by a dermatofibrosarcomas protuberans of the forehead involving

Rapidly involuting congenital hemangioma with pustules: two cases.

Rapidly involuting congenital hemangiomas (RICHs) are rare tumors that usually present as well-defined bluish or violaceous plaques or tumors with scattered telangiectasias and central or peripheral pallor. We report two previously unreported cases of RICH with associated pustules.

[Prenatal diagnosis of cervico-facial malformations and tumors].

In populations at risk or, more often, fortuitously during routine examination, ultrasonography makes it possible to diagnose a fairly large number of facial abnormalities. The most frequent of these are microphtalmos, hypotelorism (often as part of holoprosencephaly), hypertelorism and cleft lip. It these abnormalities can be isolated, they may belong to various polymalformative syndromes. Cervicofacial tumours can also be detected, but in utero their histological type can only be suspected and the possibility of surgical treatment is difficult to evaluate.

Congenital infiltrating lipomatosis of the face: report of cases and review of the literature.

Three cases of infiltrating congenital lipomatosis of the face are presented. These lesions shared the following morphologic criteria: 1) nonencapsulated congenital fatty tumor; 2) infiltration of adjacent muscle and soft tissue; 3) absence of lipoblast and malignant characteristics; 4) presence of fibrous elements with numerous nerve bundles and vessels; and 5) hypertrophy of subjacent bone. Although these tumors are benign, all three recurred after surgical excision. Extensive specimen sampling is advisable to exclude infiltrating lipoma, diffuse angiomatosis, infiltrating angiolipoma, and w

[Angiomatous diseases in the maxillofacial region and their treatment in adults].

"Angioma"-situations in the newborn are common, but even in adults one may find more or less common situations, more or less difficult to manage. - In any way, like in the early childhood, the differentiation between inborn teleangiectatic or angiokeratotic nevi and the capillary angioma or angiomatous nevi is very important concerning the prognostic and therapeutic consequences. The real newborn capillary angiomas are selfhealing. Nearly they are not found in adults and otherwise surgically treated in the same simple matter as little teleangiectasias and the eruptive "granuloma" teleangiectat

Prognostic factors and outcome for nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) is a distinct form of cancer of the upper respiratory or digestive tract in which the epidemiologic features, origin, histopathologic types, treatment, and prognosis are different from those associated with other malignant neoplasms of this anatomical area. Recent publications have demonstrated the advantage of aggressive multimodality treatment for advanced NPC. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the results of standardized treatment of NPC during 11 years and to identify pertinent factors for clinical outcome. METHODS: Between January 1, 1989, and December 31,

Facial nerve reconstruction following parotidectomy for malignancy: A systematic review of microsurgical techniques and functional outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Radical parotidectomy with facial nerve sacrifice results in complete ipsilateral facial paralysis. Although immediate microsurgical reconstruction is the standard of care, no comparative trials have been conducted, and technique selection remains empirical. METHODS: A PRISMA 2020-compliant systematic review (PROSPERO: CRD42025643307) was conducted. Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed/MEDLINE were searched from inception to June 2025. Two reviewers independently screened studies and extracted data. Risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale and MINORS. Certainty of

A new entity in the differential diagnosis of geniculate ganglion tumours: fibrous connective tissue lesion of the facial nerve.

Differential diagnosis of geniculate ganglion tumours includes chiefly schwannomas, haemangiomas and meningiomas. We report the case of a patient whose clinical and imaging findings mimicked the presentation of a facial nerve schwannoma.Pathological studies revealed a lesion with nerve bundles unstructured by intense collagenisation. Consequently, it was called fibrous connective tissue lesion of the facial nerve.

Intratemporal facial nerve neurinoma without facial paralysis.

A 38-year-old man was referred by his general practitioner to our department on 28 October 1991, with a 2-week history of vertigo. A left aural polyp was identified. The audiogram showed a moderate conductive loss on the left side. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) confirmed the presence of the expanding lesion in the descending portion of the facial nerve. However, there was no seventh nerve paresis. At operation, the neurinoma (Schwannoma) filled the middle ear cleft and extended from the genu to the stylomastoid foramen. The floor of the middle ear had been erode
