OBJECTIVE: To determine the genotype of a triplet resulted from an IVF procedure, with discordant cystic fibrosis (CF) phenotype.
DESIGN: Molecular diagnosis of CF.
SETTING: Affected triplet followed at the CF Clinic Center of Children's Hospital Los Angeles was referred to Molecular Genetics Laboratory at Georgetown University Medical Center for comprehensive DNA analysis of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator (CFTR) gene.

OBJECTIVE: To verify the hypothesis that the incidence of chromosomal abnormalities significantly increases in the products of conception of males with sub-fertility, treated with assisted reproduction techniques (ART).
STUDY DESIGN: All removed products of conception tissues were analyzed with standard cytogenetic techniques. A karyotype of the abortions was possible in 35 cases of IVF and 29 of ICSI.
RESULTS: 15/35 (43%) IVF abortions and 14/29 (48%) ICSI abortions, respectively, have shown a chromosomal abnormality. The most frequent abnormality was monosomy X (45,X0).

The first successful birth by in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and embryo transfer (ET) in the Japanese monkey was described. IVF was carried out by using oocytes collected after ovarian stimulation and sperms collected by rectal electro-ejaculation. The embryos were incubated for 36-66 hours and then transferred to the fallopian tube of the recipient via the fimbria under laparoscopic observations. Failure to retrieve oocytes during in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment was recently referred to as the "empty follicle syndrome." Data on the possible repetitiveness of this during previous or subsequent IVF attempts is lacking, which limits the understanding of its significance to the involved patients. Of 26 patients who had cycles during which no oocytes were retrieved, 10 were pregnant in the past and 20 had at least one other IVF cycle that yielded oocytes. Three patients had an undetected pregnancy when they commenced a GnRH-a on the 21st day of their cycle before ovulation stimulation for IVF. Two of the three pregnancies were later diagnosed as ectopic gestations. Based on this and previous case reports in the literature, it is suggested that luteal phase administration of GnRH-a may predispose to EPs, particularly in patients with damaged tubes, by reducing tubal motility secondary to a transient increase in circulating P concentrations.

In 1673 treatment cycles stimulated with buserelin and HMG, for IVF, GIFT or ZIFT, the severe ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) occurred in 10 cycles (0.6%).
