Background/Objectives. Multi-drug-resistant (MDR) microorganisms pose a significant challenge in healthcare settings, particularly with beta-lactam-resistant Gram-negative bacteria and glycopeptide-resistant enterococci. Culture represents the most reliable technique in determining their presence within surveillance swabs. However, it requires a long time-to-result (TTR) and shows low sensitivity. Molecular techniques integrate diagnostic procedures, allowing TTR reduction and precise identification of genes. Methods. During our usual surveillance campaign, we had the opportunity to evaluate t

Background Bloodstream infections (BSIs) are associated with high morbidity and mortality, especially in intensive care unit (ICU) settings. The most common Gram-positive pathogens, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and coagulase-negative Staphylococci (CoNS), are likely to cause BSIs. The phenotypic and genotypic characteristics of multidrug-resistant (MDR) Staphylococcal species isolated from patients admitted to the ICU with septicemia were evaluated for better treatment outcomes. Materials and methods A cross-sectional study was conducted at Sree Balaji Medical College and

Staphylococcus aureus is an important human pathogen responsible for life-threatening septicemia, endocarditis, and toxic shock syndrome. Although positive (MRSA; ATCC 33591) and negative (MSSA; ATCC 25923) control strains have been used for various pathogenesis or assay studies, little is known about the genomic structure of the strains, and there has been little genome-wide expression analysis. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that ATCC 33591 and ATCC 25923 are the most genetically diverse strains of the 15 S. aureus genomes studied. Microarray analysis showed that the most significantly upreg

Salmonella enterica serovar 4,5,12:i:- (S. 4,5,12:i:-), a monophasic variant of Salmonella Typhimurium (STm) lacking the phase 2 flagellin encoding genes fljAB, has become increasingly prevalent worldwide. The increasing trends in multidrug resistant (MDR) S. 4,5,12:i:- prevalence also pose an important global health threat. Though many reports have characterized phenotypic and genotypic drug resistance of this serovar, few studies have characterized antimicrobial resistance of this serovar in Thailand. In this study, 108 S. 4,5,12:i:- isolates from various sources in Thailand and four interna

Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Agrobacterium tumefaciens threatens healthcare and agriculture. Toxicity and environmental risks limit conventional plasmid-curing agents, prompting natural alternatives. Curcumin, piperine, and quercetin were tested for plasmid-curing against clinically isolated MDR A. tumefaciens. Morphological and 16S rRNA gene sequencing were used for identification of the isolate. Antimicrobial susceptibility and biofilm formation were measured pre- and post-treatment. Molecular docking was performed to analyze phytocompound-plasmid maintenance protein interactions. Broad-spectru

Multidrug resistance (MDR) remains a major obstacle in the treatment of ovarian cancer. MDR is often mediated by the overexpression of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, such as P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and Breast Cancer Resistance Protein (BCRP). In this study, we evaluated the ability of elacridar, a dual P-gp and BCRP inhibitor, to overcome MDR in W1, an ovarian cancer cell line sensitive to Paclitaxel (PAC) and its PAC-resistant variants. Cells were cultured under both two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) conditions to account for differences in tumor-like microenvironments.

BACKGROUND: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Escherichia coli, particularly among animal-derived isolates, poses a major threat to public and veterinary health. With conventional antibiotics becoming increasingly ineffective against multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains, alternative solutions are urgently needed. Lytic bacteriophages, known for their host specificity and potent antibacterial activity, are promising therapeutic options. However, limited genomic data on phages from diverse ecological contexts hinder a comprehensive understanding of their diversity and functional potential. METHODS:
