Dynamic functional network connectivity analysis in schizophrenia based on a spatiotemporal CPD framework.

Objective.Dynamic functional network connectivity (dFNC), based on data-driven group independent component (IC) analysis, is an important avenue for investigating underlying patterns of certain brain diseases such as schizophrenia. Canonical polyadic decomposition (CPD) of a higher-way dynamic functional connectivity tensor, can offer an innovative spatiotemporal framework to accurately characterize potential dynamic spatial and temporal fluctuations. Since multi-subject dFNC data from sliding-window analysis are also naturally a higher-order tensor, we propose an innovative sparse and low-ran

Modulation of appositional and longitudinal bone growth in the rat ulna by applied static and dynamic force.

Appositional and longitudinal growth of long bones are influenced by mechanical stimuli. Using the noninvasive rat ulna loading model, we tested the hypothesis that brief-duration (10 min/day) static loads have an inhibitory effect on appositional bone formation in the middiaphysis of growing rat ulnae. Several reports have shown that ulnar loading, when applied to growing rats, results in suppressed longitudinal growth. We tested a second hypothesis that load-induced longitudinal growth suppression in the growing rat ulna is proportional to time-averaged load, and that growth plate dimensions

Physicochemical Properties of Polyether-Modified Fluorosilicone Surfactants in Ethanol/Water Mixed Solutions.

A series of polyether-modified fluorosilicone surfactants (FSiPEs) with different numbers of trifluoropropyl groups were synthesized in this paper, aiming to explore the constitutive law of pendant trifluoropropyl groups. The chemical compositions of the synthesized surfactants were characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR. The physicochemical properties of the FSiPEs in aqueous and 75% ethanol solutions were systematically evaluated by transmission electron microscopy and equilibrium/dynamic surface tension, dynamic contact angle, foam scanning, and dynamic light scattering tests. The FSiP

Comparative Efficacy of Vibration foam Rolling and Cold Water Immersion in Amateur Basketball Players after a Simulated Load of Basketball Game.

To compare the efficacy of different recovery strategies (sitting; cold water immersion, CWI; vibration foam rolling, VFR) on the lower extremities of amateur basketball players after the simulated load of a basketball game, we assessed the power, agility, and dynamic balance before and after interventions. Ten amateur basketball players alternately underwent 12 min of sitting, 12 min of CWI at 5 °C, and 12 min of VFR. The power, agility, and dynamic balance were measured immediately post-warm-up, immediately post-game, immediately post-intervention, 1 h after interventions, and 24 h after int

Atypical low-frequency and high-frequency neural entrainment to rhythmic audiovisual speech in adults with dyslexia.

Developmental dyslexia has been linked to atypical neural processing of the temporal dynamics of speech, but there has been disagreement concerning whether faster or slower dynamics are impaired. According to the temporal sampling (TS) theory, dyslexia arises from impaired entrainment of low-frequency neural oscillations-particularly in the delta (1-4 Hz) and theta (4-8 Hz) bands-to the rhythmic modulations of speech. This hypothesis was tested for adults with and without dyslexia using electroencephalography (EEG) and employing a rhythmic audiovisual speech paradigm previously used with dysle

In silico testing of flavonoids as potential inhibitors of protease and helicase domains of dengue and Zika viruses.

BACKGROUND: Dengue and Zika are two major vector-borne diseases. Dengue causes up to 25,000 deaths and nearly a 100 million cases worldwide per year, while the incidence of Zika has increased in recent years. Although Zika has been associated to fetal microcephaly and Guillain-Barré syndrome both it and dengue have common clinical symptoms such as severe headache, retroocular pain, muscle and join pain, nausea, vomiting, and rash. Currently, vaccines have been designed and antivirals have been identified for these diseases but there still need for more options for treatment. Our group previous

Spatial attentional biases toward height-related words in young males with physical stature dissatisfaction.

By recording event-related potentials (ERPs) during a dot-probe task, the present study examined the neural dynamics of attentional bias toward height-related words among height dissatisfied males. Sixty male participants screened by Negative Physical Self Scale-Stature Concerns subscale (NPS-S) were assigned into a high height dissatisfaction (HHD) group and a low height dissatisfaction (LHD) group. The results showed that tall-related versus neutral words elicited larger N2pc for both HHD and LHD groups, whereas short-related versus neutral words elicited larger N2pc only for the HHD group.

Some ways of optimization of aphasics rehabilitation.

The main task of re-education in aphasia is the restoration of speech communicative function, which is characterized by activity, directionness and intentionality. These features can appear only in a society, with the best medium for its realization being a group or a society. Group lessons profit from the dynamics of the small social group in order to restore general and verbal communication. The group lesson also makes it possible to organize correctly, a verbal environment for aphasics. We have worked out methods of group rehabilitation based on some theoretical points of view, such as the

The impact of prevention-effective PrEP use on HIV incidence: a mathematical modelling study.

INTRODUCTION: Models that project the impact and cost-effectiveness of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) must specify how PrEP use aligns with HIV exposure. We hypothesized that varying PrEP use according to individual-level partnership dynamics rather than prioritization to population subgroups based on average risk will result in larger incidence reductions and greater efficiency. METHODS: We used an individual-based network transmission model calibrated to HIV dynamics in Eswatini to simulate PrEP use among individuals ages 15-34 between 2022 and 2031 under two paradigms of PrEP delivery

Mitochondrial Dynamics and Mitochondria-Lysosome Contacts in Neurogenetic Diseases.

Mitochondrial network is constantly in a dynamic and regulated balance of fusion and fission processes, which is known as mitochondrial dynamics. Mitochondria make physical contacts with almost every other membrane in the cell thus impacting cellular functions. Mutations in mitochondrial dynamics genes are known to cause neurogenetic diseases. To better understand the consequences on the cellular phenotype and pathophysiology of neurogenetic diseases associated with defective mitochondrial dynamics, we have compared the fibroblasts phenotypes of (i) patients carrying pathogenic variants in gen

Dynamic hyperinflation during the 6-min walk test in severely asthmatic subjects.

We tested the hypothesis that dynamic hyperinflation develops in severe asthmatic subjects during exercise. Changes in inspiratory capacity (IC) were measured during the 6-min walk test (6MWT) in severe asthmatic subjects compared with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) subjects with a similar degree of bronchial obstruction. We assessed whether changes in IC were associated with changes in dyspnoea perception. 27 severe asthmatic subjects (10 males and 17 females) and 43 COPD subjects (35 males and eight females) were recruited. The two groups performed similarly in the 6MWT (p=0.90

Observation of ventilation effects of I-gel™, Supreme™ and Ambu AuraOnce™ with respiratory dynamics monitoring in small children.

The shortcomings of laryngeal mask airway (LMA™), such as upper airway obstruction and gastric distension or airway leakage, may limit its application in small children. The I-gel™ (I-gel), LMA-Supreme™ (LMA-S), and Ambu AuraOnce™ (Ambu) are three improvements upon these shortcomings. This study adopted respiratory dynamic monitoring to observe the ventilation parameters of the three laryngeal masks in small children. A total of 105 children were randomized into Ambu (n = 35), I-gel (n = 35), and LMA-S (n = 35) groups. Primary outcomes included leak pressure and respiratory dynamic data. Secon

Kinetics of spontaneous residual shunt closure: a comparative analysis between two surgical procedures for perimembranous ventricular septal defect.

BACKGROUND: Residual shunt (RS) is common after surgical closure of perimembranous ventricular septal defect (VSD), with smaller size predicting higher spontaneous closure rates. However, most studies focus on final closure rather than the temporal dynamics of closure, and it remains unknown whether conventional surgery and minimally invasive closure differ in RS closure kinetics. This study aimed to investigate the kinetics of spontaneous RS closure by comparing the timing and temporal dynamics between the two surgical approaches. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted. Patients

Comparison of radial, dorsalis pedis, and posterior tibial arteries for ultrasound-guided arterial catheterisation with dynamic needle tip positioning in paediatric patients: a randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Arterial catheterisation in children can be challenging and time-consuming. We aimed to compare the success rates of ultrasound-guided arterial catheterisation utilising the short-axis out-of-plane approach with dynamic needle tip positioning in the radial, dorsalis pedis, and posterior tibial arteries in paediatric patients. We also examined the factors influencing the catheterisation success using dynamic needle tip positioning. METHODS: Paediatric patients (aged <3 yr) undergoing cardiac surgery were randomly assigned to three groups based on puncture sites: radial artery (Grou
