OBJECTIVES: Hypernatraemic dehydration in newborns is a significant cause of mortality and morbidity without general consensus on administering fluid therapy. The objective of the study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of fluid therapy at different concentrations for term dehydrated hypernatraemic newborns requiring intravenous fluid therapy.

Hyperosmolar non-ketotic coma in diabetes is a life-threatening condition. We describe three patients, aged 59-67 years, who developed hyperosmolar coma during the first ten days after admission for stroke. Common to all three were normal plasma osmolality and slightly elevated plasma creatinine levels on admission, treatment with diuretics, parenteral dextrose administration before and low urinary glucose output during the coma. Electrolyte disturbances in leukemia can be the result of the disease process or drug therapy. One group of electrolyte abnormalities is related to the stage of the leukemic process.
