[Modern CT diagnosis of acute thoracic and abdominal trauma].

PURPOSE: To evaluate a modified algorithm in the diagnostic management of polytraumatized patients by using whole body multislice CT (MSCT) as primary diagnostic tool. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Between June 1999 and October 2000 532 polytraumatized patients were referred to the emergency department. 336 polytraumatized patients were primarily evaluated using whole body MSCT according to the "Innsbruck Emergency Algorithm". MSCT is performed immediately after cardiovascular stabilization of the patient. During the initial stabilization period free intraabdominal fluid is excluded or demonstrated b

DT-VNet: Deep Transformer-Based VNet Framework for 3D Prostate MRI Segmentation.

Magnetic ResonanceImaging (MRI) is widely used in examining and diagnosing prostate diseases due to its high resolution. However, the diverse morphology of prostate tissue presents a significant challenge for precise gland segmentation. Convolutional Neural Networks have demonstrated effectiveness in segmenting prostate regions. Nevertheless, their limited capability in extracting global long-range semantic features often leads to unstable network segmentation performance. To address these challenges, we propose a Deep Transformer-based Vnet framework (DT-VNet), which consists of a symmetric e

RNN-AHF Framework: Enhancing Multi-focal Nature of Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy Lesion Region in MRI Image Using Optimized Rough Neural Network Weight and Anti-Homomorphic Filter.

INTRODUCTION: Image enhancement of the Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) lesion region in neonatal brain MR images is a challenging task due to the diffuse (i.e., multi-focal) nature, small size, and low contrast of the lesions. Classifying the stages of HIE is also difficult because of the unclear boundaries and edges of the lesions, which are dispersed throughout the brain. Moreover, unclear boundaries and edges are due to chemical shifts, partial volume artifacts, and motion artifacts. Further, voxels may reflect signals from adjacent tissues. Existing algorithms perform poorly in HIE l

Image formation in holographic tomography: high-aperture imaging conditions.

Three-dimensional (3D) imaging by holographic tomography can be performed for a fixed detector through rotation of either the object or the illumination beam. We have previously presented a paraxial treatment to distinguish between these two approaches using transfer function analysis. In particular, the cutoff of the transfer function when rotating the illumination about one axis was calculated analytically using one-dimensional Fourier integration of the defocused transfer function. However, high numerical aperture objectives are usually used in experimental arrangements, and the previous pa

Myocardial Temporal-Mechanical Self-Supervision Model for Contrast-Free Myocardial Infarction Segmentation With Label-Free Training.

Contrast-free myocardial infarction (MI) segmentation is essential for mitigating the health risks associated with contrast agents (CAs) in clinical diagnostics. However, existing approaches are limited by their reliance on strictly paired CINE sequences and contrast-enhanced images, which are often difficult to obtain because patient conditions and imaging protocols often cause inter-modality slice misalignments. Therefore, we propose MTMS, the first label-free training and contrast-free MI segmentation model, enabling effective training without requiring paired datasets. Notably, MTMS is the

Quantitative Multifrequency Ultrasound Imaging Using Narrowband Pulsing for Tissue Characterization.

OBJECTIVE: Multifrequency ultrasound (MFUS) is a novel quantitative imaging technique that captures backscattered data after transmission of a sequence of frequency-shifted narrowband ultrasound (US) pulses. The goal of this study was to implement a MFUS acquisition sequence and then validate quantitative measurements using an animal model of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). MATERIALS AND METHODS: US imaging was performed using a programmable research scanner (Vantage NXT 256, Verasonics Inc) equipped with a L11-5v linear array. Radiofrequency (RF) data were a

Channel-wise joint disentanglement representation learning for B-mode and super-resolution ultrasound based CAD of breast cancer.

B-mode ultrasound (BUS) is widely used in breast cancer diagnosis, while the emerging super-resolution ultrasound (SRUS) provides microvascular information with high spatial resolution, which has shown great potential in improving breast cancer diagnosis. However, as a new ultrasound modality, its diagnosis remains highly dependent on the clinical experience of sonologists, highlighting the need for reliable computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) approaches. In this work, a novel dual-branch network with a Channel-Wise Joint Disentanglement Representation Learning (CW-JDRL) method is proposed for the

ProstAtlasDiff: Prostate cancer detection on MRI using Diffusion Probabilistic Models guided by population spatial cancer atlases.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is increasingly being used to detect prostate cancer, yet its interpretation can be challenging due to subtle differences between benign and cancerous tissue. Recently, Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Models (DDPMs) have shown great utility for medical image segmentation, modeling the process as noise removal in standard Gaussian distributions. In this study, we further enhance DDPMs by introducing the knowledge that the occurrence of cancer varies across the prostate (e.g., ∼70% of prostate cancers occur in the peripheral zone). We quantify such heterogeneit

AI and human interactions in prostate cancer diagnosis using MRI.

This special report explores the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into prostate MRI workflows to address limitations associated with single-reader interpretations, such as inter-reader variability and diagnostic errors. We review various AI-integrated workflow strategies, from AI-assisted decision support to fully autonomous analysis, examining their benefits and challenges. AI can act as a second reader, enhancing detection sensitivity and reducing false negatives or pre-screen cases for efficient triage, thereby optimising radiologist workload. Key advantages include the potential

MV2SwimNet: A lightweight transformer-based hybrid model for knee meniscus tears detection.

Knee Ailments, such as meniscus injuries, bother millions globally, with research showing that more than 14% of the population above 40 years lives with meniscus-related conditions. Conventional diagnosis techniques, like manual MRI interpretation, are labour-intensive, error-prone, and dependent on skilled radiologists, making an automatic and more accurate alternative indispensable. Current deep-learning solutions heavily depend on CNNs, which perform poorly in long-range dependencies and global contextual info. We proposed MV2SwimNet, a hybrid of MobileNetV2 and Swin Transformer, integratin

Application of Deep Learning in the Diagnosis of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease: A Review.

Most neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's are life-threatening, critical, and incurable affecting mainly the elderly population. Early diagnosis is challenging as disease phenotype is very crucial for predicting, preventing the progression, and effective drug discovery. In the last few years, Deep learning (DL) based neural networks are the state-of-the-art models deployed in industries and academics across different areas like natural language processing, image analysis, speech recognition, audio classification, and many more It has been slowly realized that they hav

Quantitative MRI Brain Studies in Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer's Disease: A Methodological Review.

Classifying and predicting Alzheimer's disease (AD) in individuals with memory disorders through clinical and psychometric assessment is challenging, especially in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) subjects. Quantitative structural magnetic resonance imaging acquisition methods in combination with computer-aided diagnosis are currently being used for the assessment of AD. These acquisitions methods include voxel-based morphometry, volumetric measurements in specific regions of interest (ROIs), cortical thickness measurements, shape analysis, and texture analysis. This review evaluates the aforem

Microwave reflectometry for noninvasive imaging of skin abnormalities.

In this paper, a microwave microscope is presented for characterization of skin abnormalities. A coplanar waveguide probe is designed and fabricated for high-resolution near-field imaging of the biological samples. Several simulations and measurement studies are described to present the capability of the proposed probe in identification of different tissues and the detection of fat masses at different depths. In addition, two methods are used to eliminate the measurement noise which is caused by non-targeted tissues. Then, the contours around the masses are obtained applying an edge detection

Visual print tuning deficits in dyslexic adolescents under minimized phonological demands.

The left ventral occipitotemporal cortex is reliably activated by visual orthographic stimulation and has repeatedly been found underactivated in developmental dyslexia. However, previous studies have made little effort to specifically probe orthographic processing while minimizing the need for higher-order reading related operations, especially phonological processing. Phonological deficits are well documented in dyslexia but may limit interpretations of ventral occipitotemporal underactivation as a primarily orthographic coding deficit, considering that different processing modes occur highl
