BACKGROUND: We previously reported that extending an overnight continuous posterior lumbar plexus nerve block to 4 days after hip arthroplasty provides clear benefits during the perineural infusion in the immediate postoperative period. Twenty-two of 53 (42%) patients developed subclavian vein thrombosis (SVT) while receiving chemotherapy for advanced malignancy by an ambulatory pump constant infusion delivery system.
