BACKGROUND: Limited function of the upper limb is the main problem after radical therapy of breast cancer. The shoulder joint is most commonly affected. However, even the simplest movements involve entire muscle groups. The aim of this study was to assess elbow flexor and extensor function in women following treatment of breast cancer.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: 47 women at a mean age of 62 years (range 45 - 77 years) post Patey mastectomy participated in the study. The function of muscles of the elbow joint (peak torque, work, power) was examined by isokinetic testing.

BACKGROUND: During the past few years, the genes BRCAI and BRCA2 were cloned. Mutations in each gene are responsible for the syndrome of familial breast and ovarian carcinoma. Among women who carry such a mutation, there is a 56%-80% life-time risk of developing breast cancer and a 16%-60% risk of developing ovarian cancer. HYPOTHESIS: Resection of the nipple-areolar complex (NAC) for central breast cancers that involve the nipple or areola, with postoperative radiation therapy, adheres to the oncologic principles established for breast conservation surgery of other breast cancers. Good or excellent cosmetic results can be achieved. The rate of ipsilateral breast recurrence will be similar to that seen with peripheral breast cancers. The indications for breast conservation surgery can be safely extended to include patients with breast cancers that involve the NAC.

BACKGROUND: The greater omentum is supplied by the right, middle, and left omental arteries, which arise from the right and left gastroepiploic arteries. All or part of the greater omentum can be harvested based on this blood supply for free tissue transfer. It has stimulated new interest in its use as the donor site in the treatment of lymphedema. CASE: A 49-year-old Caucasian woman recently diagnosed with breast cancer classified as T1N2M0, stage IIIA, presenting skin rash associated with heliotrope and Gottron's papules. The genetic link between neurofibromatosis and breast cancer has recently intrigued the researchers and breast practitioners alike. While the association is well established in females, the same cannot be said for the male breast cancer due to paucity of cases. With only two cases reported previously, our knowledge is sparse.
