To facilitate safer prescribing of opioids and other drugs, nearly all states operate prescription monitoring programs (PMPs), which collect and share data on controlled substance dispensing. Policy makers have sought to raise clinicians' engagement with these programs but lack evidence on effective interventions. Over the past decade, Mental Health Courts (MHCs) have spread rapidly across the U.S. These courts aim to reduce recidivism among adults with mental illnesses through diversion into community-based treatment. OBJECTIVE: Unilateral oophorectomy (UO) is a common surgical practice, yet it remains understudied. We investigated trends in incidence rates, indications, and pathological differences in the right and left ovaries in women younger than 50 years.
METHODS: The Rochester Epidemiology Project medical records linkage system was used to identify all women in Olmsted County, MN, who underwent UO between 1950 and 2007 (n = 1,838). We studied the incidence rates, indications, and pathologies of UO by laterality, and investigated trends across time.

BACKGROUND: Recurrent erythema multiforme (EM) is a condition of substantial morbidity. Our efforts toward the etiologic attribution and treatment of recurrent EM have been less fruitful than those previously described.
OBJECTIVE: We sought to further characterize clinical characteristics, etiologic associations, and treatment of recurrent EM.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective review of patients with recurrent EM seen between 2000 and 2007.

Carbon tetrachloride (often mixed with carbon disulfide or ethylene dichloride) is a common constituent of liquid grain fumigants. Applied as liquids, these mixtures volatilize and achieve vapor concentrations sufficient to control insect infestations in stored grains. Absorbed grain desorbs fumigant components after the fumigation period, and it then becomes a source of exposure to workers who handle fumigated grain. Thirty-eight emergency cricothyrotomies were performed over a 3-year period. This was the first airway control maneuver attempted in 5 patients, 3 of whom had facial and/or neck injury, one apneic with upper airway hemorrhage, and one with aortobronchial fistula. Patterns of small bowel involvement from primary neoplasms elsewhere in the body were studied in order to determine whether the location of the lesions or their radiological appearance could provide criteria for distinguishing secondary from primary lesions. Multiplicity of lesions and the finding of "transverse stretch" were found to be highly indicative of secondary neoplastic involvement of the small bowel.

From 1970 through 1975, 198 children with hypospadias were operated upon at our clinic. Three basic types of primary urethroplasty were used: 1) a modified 2-stage Cecil urethroplasty after separate straightening, 2) a modified 1-stage Denis Browne procedure after prior correction of chordee and 3) a 1-stage combined repair of hypospadias and chordee.
