The method of infrared thermovision was used to study 22 patients with Raynaud's syndrome: 9 patients with sclerodermia, 8 with the primary Raynaud's syndrome and 5 patients with various rheumatic diseases. Radiometric assays revealed that thiamine deficiency in rats to whom hydroxythiamine was administered in variable doses, is concomitant with activation of gluconeogenesis from pyruvate in liver tissue. The most probable mechanism of this effect is the cAMP-dependent activation of key enzymes of intracellular glucose synthesis. This process is facilitated by the diminution of the ratio of free forms of NAD+ and NADPH in the cytoplasm.

The authors studied the effect of tetracycline therapy (short and long courses) on the indices of chlamydia infection (antigens and antibodies) in Reiter's urogenous disease. The concentration of tetracycline in the blood serum and synovial fluid when administered in a daily dose of 2.0 g (single dose 0.5 g) was determined. The accessibility to trypsin of 125I-labeled latrotoxin bound to rat brain synaptosomes was investigated. It was shown that latrotoxin bound to synaptosomes in the cold can be practically completely removed by trypsin treatment. Data on the studies of the blood flow in finger vessels in 45 patients with Raynaud's disease by means of ultrasonic dopplerography and photoplethysmography are given. The control group consisted of 30 persons. The use of a cryotest showed significant differences in arterial segmental blood flow of the hand fingers in patients with Raynaud's disease and in those of the control group. The mentioned methods are noninvasive, give sufficiently informative results providing an objective assessment of the nature of vascular disorders in Raynaud's phenomenon of different genesis.

The role of cAMP in K+-dependent regulation of aldosterone output was studied. Guinea pig adrenal slices were incubated with various concentrations of K+ for 20 min. Aldosterone and cAMP output, protein synthesis and phosphorylation were increased with a rise in K+ concentration. The increase in the phosphorylation of the protein with apparent molecular weight of about 38 kD resulted from the increase in K+ concentration in the incubation medium. Many stress situations such as physical exertion, overheating, alcohol abuse, poisoning with lead, etc. are accompanied by a higher level of uric acid. The question up till what moment hyperuricemia is considered compensatory and under what effect it changes to a pathological state still remains unsolved. Proceeding from the literature data and the results of their own research the authors confirm the importance of regarding hyperuricemia as a risk factor since it is a biochemical marker not only of the disease of the joints but also of the cardio-vascular pathology and other states.
