INTRODUCTION: Congenital talipes equinovarus is a musculoskeletal deformity causing foot disability with plantar flexed, inverted and adducted foot. The deformities associated with club foot must be corrected at an early age to prevent long term residual disabilities.
CASE REPORT: In this case, we describe a rare anatomical variation of the neglected adult club foot, which was noticed during routine dissection of lower limb for IMBBS in AIIMS, Mangalagiri. The adult neglected club foot was dissected to identify the exact soft tissue and bony abnormalities involved in the deformity. The planta

BACKGROUND: Cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) is an important extracellular matrix protein primarily functioning in the musculoskeletal tissues and especially endochondral bone growth. Mutations in COMP cause the skeletal dysplasia pseudoachondroplasia (PSACH) that is characterized by short limbs and fingers, joint laxity, and abnormalities but a striking lack of skull and facial abnormalities.
METHODS: This study examined both mice and humans to determine how mutant-COMP affects face and skull growth.
RESULTS: Mutant COMP (MT-COMP) mice were phenotypically distinct. Snout length an

We report on the imaging features of musculoskeletal abnormalities in a 52-year-old woman suffering from Lyme disease presenting with acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans (ACA). The patient developed recurrent attacks of migratory asymmetrical oligoarthritis, involving articular and peri-articular structures, including the metatarsophalageal (MTP) joints, scapular bone, thoracic spine, elbow, gluteal area, knee, ankle and metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints. Six months after the first symptoms, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) showed bone marrow oedema within the proximal phalanx of the right fift…

Within the last decade, Lyme borreliosis has emerged as a complex new infection whose distribution is worldwide. The disorder is caused by a recently recognized spirochete, B. burgdorferi, transmitted by ticks of the I. ricinus complex. Certain species of mice are critical in the life cycle of the spirochete, and deer appear to be crucial to the tick. Although the disorder's basic outlines are similar everywhere, there are regional variations in the causative spirochete, animal hosts, and clinical manifestations of the illness. In the United States, Lyme disease commonly begins in summer with

INTRODUCTION: Iatrogenic and traumatic injuries to the femoral and saphenous nerves, and their branches are uncommon but can be a cause of clinically pertinent lower limb dysfunction and neuralgia. Despite this, direct sonographic imaging of these nerves is not commonly requested or performed.
METHODS: A review of the literature regarding the detailed relative anatomy, sonographic technique to image these nerves and their branches and their normal and abnormal appearances was conducted.
DISCUSSION: These nerves are often in the direct imaging field of many ultrasound examinations including t

Systemic sclerosis (scleroderma) has a complex pathogenesis. Thus, management of systemic sclerosis remains a challenge. Currently, treatment in systemic sclerosis is targeted at reducing 1) abnormal immune activation, 2) microvascular abnormalities and 3) fibrosis. Therapy should be adjusted individually, depending on disease subtype and activity. Immunosuppressive agents, such as cyclophosphamide or mycophenolate mofetil and occasionally methotrexate or cyclosporine A are indicated in rapidly progressing systemic sclerosis. Low or moderate doses of corticosteroids may be used in patients wit

Klein-Waardenburg syndrome or Waardenburg syndrome type 3 (WS-III; MIM 148820) is characterized by the presence of musculoskeletal abnormalities in association with clinical features of Waardenburg syndrome type 1 (WS-I). Since the description of the first patient in 1947 (D. Klein, Arch Klaus Stift Vererb Forsch 1947: 22: 336-342), a few cases have been reported. Only occasional families have demonstrated autosomal-dominant inheritance of WS-III. In a previous report, a missense mutation in the paired domain of the PAX3 gene has been described in a family with dominant segregation of WS-III. …

Vascular abnormalities in athletes, although less common than musculoskeletal injuries, present a significant diagnostic challenge due to overlapping manifestations. These conditions range from subtle exertional discomfort to potentially limb-threatening ischemia and life-threatening complications such as pulmonary embolism or sudden cardiac death. In this comprehensive review, the authors highlight the spectrum of vascular abnormalities encountered in athletes, emphasizing the pivotal role of multimodality imaging, including US, CT angiography, MR angiography, and conventional angiography in

INTRODUCTION: Persistent low back pain (LBP) after lumbar spine surgery is commonly attributed to recurrent stenosis, neural compression, or degenerative changes. Abnormalities of the thoracolumbar fascia (TLF) after lumbar surgery have rarely been reported as a potential source of pain. We describe a patient with persistent post-operative LBP in whom musculoskeletal ultrasound (US) demonstrated a focal fascial defect corresponding to the painful region.
CASE REPORT: A 65-year-old man presented with LBP 2 years after lumbar surgery for spinal stenosis. Evaluation revealed no neurological defi

Mouse models are relevant to studying the functionality of genes involved in human diseases; however, translation of phenotypes can be challenging. Here, we investigated genes related to monogenic forms of cardiovascular disease based on the Genomics England PanelApp and aligned them to International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium (IMPC) data. We found 153 genes associated with cardiomyopathy, cardiac arrhythmias or congenital heart disease in humans, of which 151 have one-to-one mouse orthologues. For 37.7% (57/151), viability and heart data captured by electrocardiography, transthoracic echoca

Chronic musculoskeletal pain condition often shows poor correlations between tissue abnormalities and clinical pain. Therefore, classification of pain conditions like chronic low back pain, osteoarthritis, and fibromyalgia depends mostly on self report and less on objective findings like X-ray or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) changes. However, recent advances in structural and functional brain imaging have identified brain abnormalities in chronic pain conditions that can be used for illness classification. Because the analysis of complex and multivariate brain imaging data is challenging,

Hypermobility type Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (HT-EDS) is a relatively frequent, although commonly misdiagnosed variant of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, mainly characterized by marked joint instability and mild cutaneous involvement. Chronic pain, asthenia, and gastrointestinal and pelvic dysfunction are characteristic additional manifestations. We report on 21 HT-EDS patients selected from a group of 40 subjects with suspected mild hereditary connective tissue disorder. General, mucocutaneous, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, neurologic, gastrointestinal, urogynecological, and ear-nose-throat abnormali
