Stage-Aware Swin-Enhanced nnU-Net v2 for Robust Polyp Segmentation in Collaborative Endoscopic Visual Sensing.

Automatic colon polyp segmentation is important for reliable endoscopic visual sensing. However, segmentation performance can be degraded by ambiguous lesion boundaries, heterogeneous appearance, and image quality variations during acquisition or transmission. This study proposes a stage-aware Swin-enhanced nnU-Net v2 framework, where Swin Transformer blocks are inserted into selected encoder stages while preserving the original nnU-Net v2 pipeline. Different insertion strategies were evaluated on an independent Kvasir-SEG test set, and robustness was further assessed under six synthetic corru

Unsupervised retinal image registration based on D-STUNet and progressive keypoint screening strategy.

UNLABELLED: Objective. Retinal image registration improves the accuracy and validity of a doctor's diagnosis and holds a crucial role in the monitoring and treatment of associated diseases. However, most existing image registration methods have limitations in identifying retinal vascular features, making it difficult to achieve desirable results in retinal image registration tasks. To solve this problem, a fusion network of Swin Transformer and U-Net, improved by Differential Multi-scale Convolutional Block Attention Module with Residual Mechanism (DMCR), named D-STUNet, is proposed in conjunc

[Pancreas segmentation with multi-channel convolution and combined deep supervision].

Due to its irregular shape and varying contour, pancreas segmentation is a recognized challenge in medical image segmentation. Convolutional neural network (CNN) and Transformer-based networks perform well but have limitations: CNN have constrained receptive fields, and Transformer underutilize image features. This work proposes an improved pancreas segmentation method by combining CNN and Transformer. Point-wise separable convolution was introduced in a stage-wise encoder to extract more features with fewer parameters. A densely connected ensemble decoder enabled multi-scale feature fusion, a

Design of an Asynchronous BMI with Interpretable Neural Networks for Exoskeleton Control: A Proof of Concept on Data Evolution and Scalability Over One Week.

This paper presents a concept study of a week-long experimental protocol for controlling a lower-limb exoskeleton via a brain-machine interface. The system employed a neural network adapted from EEGNet that distinguishes motor imagery and resting states in a two-dimensional space under both static and movement conditions. Each day, the model was fine-tuned with that day's training data as well as data from previous days. Daily closed-loop asynchronous evaluations were carried out to assess real-time exoskeleton control performance. The results indicate steady improvements in system accuracy ov

Automated detection of Parkinson's disease using improved linknet-ghostnet model based on handwriting images.

Parkinson's disease (PD), is a neural disorder that damages movement control, which is reflected by different non-motor and motor symptoms. PD is caused by the weakening of neurons that produce dopamine in the brain, and it includes symptoms like bradykinesia (delay in movements), stiffness, and tremors. People frequently suffer from loss of motor skills when the illness worsens, which has a big influence on everyday tasks like writing. Micrographia is a disorder marked by very tiny, cramped handwriting and is one of the symptoms of PD. As a reflection of the disease's wider motor impairments,

Highly Accurate Occupational Pneumoconiosis Staging via Dark Channel Prior-Inspired Lesion Area Enhancement.

Occupational pneumoconiosis (OP) staging is the core for OP diagnosis. It is essentially an image classification task concerning patients' lung condition by analyzing their chest X-ray. To perform artificial intelligence-assisted OP staging, the chest X-ray film representational learning and classification are commonly adopted, where a convolutional neural network (CNN) has proven to be very efficient. However, unlike commonly encountered image classification tasks, the OP staging relies heavily on the profusion level of opacities, i.e., the OP lesion reflection on the X-ray film. The OP lesio

LSTM and reinforcement learning based delineation of electrocardiogram characteristic waves.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Fiducial points of electrocardiogram (ECG) characteristic waves (CWs) are essential for clinical interpretation, yet manual delineation is labor-intensive and automated methods often depend on pre-segmentation or are sensitive to sampling variability. A particularly challenging case is P-wave delineation in third-degree atrioventricular (AV) block, where atrial and ventricular rhythms dissociate, complicating segmentation. METHOD: This study proposes a two-stage framework combining a reinforcement learning (RL)-based peak analyzer with an LSTM classifier. The peak an

Alzheimer's disease classification using hybrid loss Psi-Net segmentation and a new hybrid network model.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a type of brain disorder that is becoming more prevalent worldwide. It is a progressive and irreversible condition that gradually impairs memory and cognitive abilities, eventually making it difficult to perform even basic tasks. While the symptoms may not be noticeable until the disease has progressed significantly, early diagnosis can help slow its progression. Unfortunately, there is currently no cure for AD, and although medications and therapies can help manage its symptoms, they cannot reverse the disease. This article proposes a SpinalNet-Rider Neural Network

Application of automatic image analysis using a Deep Learning Neural Network for assessing the growth of green algae containing carotenoids - importance for environment, health and aquaculture.

Using deep learning and neural networks enables us to greatly speed-up quantitative studies and provide a useful tool for analyzing microscopic images. Studies conducted on selected algae Haematococcus and Coelastrum sp. confirm the feasibility of using the deep learning neural network. The confusion matrix demonstrated the numbers of errors generated by the YOLO v8 network in relation to the validation dataset. It indicated a higher number of errors in the detection of Haematococcus than Coleastrum. The F1 score, as the harmonic mean of precision and recall, is significantly higher for the cl

A Novel Internet of Medical Things Hybrid Model for Cybersecurity Anomaly Detection.

The proliferation of Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) devices connected to the internet poses significant challenges to data integrity, confidentiality, and patient safety due to their vulnerability to outside exploitation. Specifically, IoMT devices capture and process vast amounts of sensitive patient data but often lack adequate security mechanisms, making them susceptible to attacks that compromise data integrity-such as the injection of false or fabricated information-which imposes significant risks on the patient. To address this, we introduce a novel hybrid anomaly detection model comb

Hybrid-MedNet: a hybrid CNN-transformer network with multi-dimensional feature fusion for medical image segmentation.

Twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) is a complex prenatal condition in which monochorionic twins experience an imbalance in blood flow due to abnormal vascular connections in the shared placenta. Fetoscopic laser photocoagulation is the first-line treatment for TTTS, aimed at coagulating these abnormal connections. However, the procedure is complicated by a limited field of view, occlusions, poor-quality endoscopic images, and distortions caused by artifacts. To optimize the visualization of placental vessels during surgical procedures, we propose Hybrid-MedNet, a novel hybrid CNN-transfo

MFDA-YOLO: A multiscale feature fusion and dynamic alignment network for UAV small objects detection.

Standard detectors such as YOLOv8 face significant challenges when applied to aerial drone imagery, including extreme scale variations, minute targets, and complex backgrounds. Their generic feature fusion architecture is prone to generating false positives and missing small objects. To address these limitations, we propose an improved MFDA-YOLO model based on YOLOv8. The model introduces an Attention-based Intra-scale Feature Interaction (AIFI) module in the backbone network to enhance high-level feature interactions, improve the adaptation to multi-scale targets, and strengthen feature repre

Optimized CNN framework for malaria detection using Otsu thresholding-based image segmentation.

Accurate and early diagnosis of malaria from peripheral blood smear images remains a critical challenge in healthcare, particularly in resource-limited settings. In this work, we propose an optimized convolutional neural network (CNN) framework enhanced by Otsu thresholding-based image segmentation for improved detection of malaria-infected cells. A dataset of 43,400 blood smear images was utilized, divided into a 70:30 ratio for training and testing. A baseline 12-layer CNN achieved 95% accuracy, which improved to 97% with the integration of EfficientNet-B7 through a hybrid parallel feature-f

Deep Upscale U-Net for automatic tongue segmentation.

In a treatment or diagnosis related to oral health conditions such as oral cancer and oropharyngeal cancer, an investigation of tongue's movements is a major part. In an automatic measurement of such movement, it must first start with a task of tongue segmentation. This paper proposes a solution of tongue segmentation based on a decoder-encoder CNN-based structure i.e., U-Net. However, it could suffer from a problem of feature loss in deep layers. This paper proposes a Deep Upscale U-Net (DU-UNET). An additional up-sampling of the feature map from a contracting path is concatenated to an upper
