The nitrosyl complexes pentachloronitrosylosmate(II), [OsCl5(NO)]2-, and hydroxytetranitronitrosylosmate(II), [Os(OH)(NO2)4(NO)]2-, were evaluated as parent species for use on the 191Os-191mIr generator in an attempt to increase the 191mIr yield of the generator by providing a direct route to a chemically stable 191mIr daughter. The uptake of the 191Os-labeled complexes by the inorganic ion-exchangers ZrO2, SnO2, PbS, MnO2 and Al2O3 and the organic resin AG MP-1 was measured and prototype generators were prepared using those exchangers that demonstrated greater than 90% uptake of the 191Os-lab

The effect of combining photodynamic therapy (PDT) and bioreductive drugs has been investigated using the RIF-1 experimental murine tumour. Light was delivered interstially to the tumour at 675 nm using a single optical fibre attached to an argon-ion dye laser. The photosensitizer was disulphonated aluminium phthalocyanine (AlS2Pc) and the bioreductive drugs were the dual function nitroimidazole RSU1069 and its pro-drug RB6145. Varying the time between administration of the photosensitizer and light delivery (TL) from 30 min to 24 h had little influence on the extent of the anti-tumour effect

The ideal aims of treatment of peptic ulcer disease are to relieve pain, heal the ulcer, and delay ulcer recurrence. This article provides a broad perspective on the pharmacology and therapeutic actions of antiulcer drugs. To date, no drug meets all goals of therapy. Whole gut irrigation is easier for the patient and more likely to be successful if the colon is prepared before irrigation. This study compared Picolax, given the day before irrigation, with an enema regimen and showed that there was no difference in the volume of fluid required and the time taken for whole gut irrigation to produce a clear effluent between the two groups.

The authors studied the disinfecting action of the vapour of tributyltin oxide in the aerosol chamber and came to the conclusion that the tin-organic compounds possessed a wide buicidal action, still inadequately used in practice. The mentioned vapour served as a disinfectant only in the presence of water vapour. Tribytyltin oxide (0.15% concentration) displayed an ovicidal action on the ova of Ascaris suum. Tributyltin laurate produced a good insecticidal effect on Musca domestica.
