As part of a larger study, eleven subjects--male, Caucasian, native-born, early 70s, lawyers, life-long (since 1922) participants in the Terman Study of the Gifted--were interviewed. This study examined whether the family history method can be used to detect cases of schizophrenia-related personality disorder in the families of schizophrenic patients. After proposing specific family history criteria for this diagnosis, the authors applied these criteria in a blind family history study and found that schizophrenia-related personality disorders were significantly more common in the first-degree relatives of schizophrenic patients than in the relatives of medically ill controls.

Management of intractable facial pain is often referred to a specialised Pain Relieving Clinic, especially in light of the evidence that psychological factors play a part in the maintenance of the pain. Psychopathological abnormalities have at all times contributed to a uniform concept of epilepsy. The personality profiles of alcoholics as derived from four objective inventories--the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire, the Personality Research Form and the Differential Personality Inventory--are reviewed. An overall consistency of results is seen which interfaces with known clinical entities from other areas of mental health research.

The psychic structure of 30 patients suffering from sudden deafness and of 35 patients suffering from otosclerosis was tested by the FPI. Additionally the intelligence was tested by the MWT-B. Seventeen patients with at least 50% carotid artery stenosis were given intelligence and personality tests just prior to and 6 weeks after carotid endarterectomy. When compared with nine control patients, the endarterectomy patients showed increases in verbal-comprehension I.Q., perceptual-organization I.Q., decreases in time to complete perceptual motor tasks, decrease in asphasic signs, and significant reductions in anxiety, suspicion, confusion, disorientation, and other personality symptoms generally associated with senility. Statistical evaluation showed these results to be valid.
