Impact of Genetic Polymorphisms on Bortezomib-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy in Multiple Myeloma: A Systematic Review and Bioinformatics Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Bortezomib, a 26S proteasome inhibitor, has become a cornerstone in the treatment of multiple myeloma. However, its use is limited by a common and potentially serious adverse effect, bortezomib-induced peripheral neuropathy (BIPN), which manifests in 30-60% of multiple myeloma patients primarily as a sensory, distal, axonal neuropathy, often with pain, numbness, tingling, and in some cases, motor involvement, which can lead to dose reductions, therapy discontinuation, or long-term morbidity. BIPN is associated with genetic predisposition, and several studies suggest that single-nuc

Genetic polymorphisms of merozoite surface protein-1 ICB 5-6 in Vietnamese Plasmodium vivax isolates.

Plasmodium vivax merozoite surface protein-1 (PvMSP-1) is one of the major polymorphic markers for molecular epidemiological purposes. In particular, the interspecies conserved block 5-6 (ICB 5-6) of PvMSP-1 is a region exhibiting extensive genetic polymorphism. In this study, we analyzed polymorphic characters of the pvmsp-1 ICB 5-6 region from P. vivax isolates collected in 4 provinces of Vietnam (Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, and Khanh Hoa) between 2018 and 2022. A comparative analysis of pvmsp-1 ICB 5-6 sequences was also conducted between Vietnam and other endemic regions. A total of 139 pv

Circulating levels of PADs and citrullinated histone H3 in SARS-CoV-2 infection: Influence of genetic polymorphisms.

BACKGROUND: Peptidyl arginine deiminases (PADs) and citrullinated H3 histone (H3Cit) play a crucial role in the inflammatory response. These components determine various clinical situations in COVID-2019 associated pneumonia. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the genes PADI2 and PADI4 may influence the outcome of poorer patient outcomes. We analyze the association of circulating levels NETs biomarkers (PAD2, PAD4, and H3Cit) and the SNPs on PADI2 (rs1005753 and rs2235926) and PADI4 (rs11203366, rs11203367, and rs874881) in hospitalized patients with severe acute respiratory distress sy

Predictive biomarkers for valproic acid-induced hepatotoxicity in Chinese patients with epilepsy: the role of metabolites and genetic polymorphisms.

Valproic acid (VPA) is a widely used antiepileptic drug, but its hepatotoxicity limits usage. This study explored biomarkers and genetic factors associated with VPA-induced liver injury in 200 Chinese epileptic patients on VPA monotherapy. We analyzed VPA and its metabolites (4-ene-VPA, 3-OH-VPA, 4-OH-VPA, 2-PGA), liver function, and 22 gene polymorphisms. Patients with abnormal liver function (ANLFT) had significantly higher 4-ene-VPA levels than those with normal liver function (NLFT). The GG genotype of CPT1A rs2228502 was associated with elevated 4-ene-VPA levels. SNPs in ACOT1, PPARα, FFA

VDR, CXCR1, CXCR2, PSCA Polymorphisms and Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections in Women: Genetic Association Study.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common human infections. Evidence suggests that there might be a genetic predisposition to UTI. Previous small candidate gene studies have suggested that common variants in genes involved in the immune response to UTI could increase susceptibility to the development of recurrent UTI (rUTI). The objective was to conduct a gene association study to replicate previous gene association studies identifying single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) putatively associated with rUTI in adult women. METHODS: Women with a history
