'It's everybody's business': a multi-method study to co-develop and evaluate a web-based interprofessional Sexual Function Intimacy Concerns after Cancer educational programme (SexFICC) to upskill cancer healthcare providers.

INTRODUCTION: With improved survival rates, there is a growing population of cancer survivors who experience sexual health concerns following cancer treatment. These are widely recognised sequelae of cancer and cancer treatment, negatively impacting intimate relationships and quality of life. At least 40% (up to 100%) of people affected by cancer report concerns in this area. However, despite being well documented long-term challenges, they remain largely unaddressed by healthcare teams leading to further deterioration in sexual health. Healthcare providers identify this as an important qualit

Public health crises: the development of a consensus document on their management in Spain.

Several public health crises in Europe have led to sustained outbreaks, political problems, or have generated social alarm. For this reason, a nationwide study was conducted in Spain with the objective to determine which public health events provoke the most frequent crises, to reach a consensus regarding the appropriate actions to be taken when responding to public health crises, and to provide recommendations for their management. The events which had most frequently provoked crises between 1999 and 2004 were identified. A consensus was obtained by public health experts from the 17 Autonomou

The Spinal Cord Injury Self-Management Program: A Pilot.

People with chronic spinal cord injury (SCI) experience a higher rate of secondary health conditions (SHCs) which affect their health and well-being. Self-management (SM) is a proven intervention approach, but formal programs may need to be tailored for the SCI population to reflect their needs and values. We sought to examine the feasibility and acceptability of the Spinal Cord Injury Self-Management (SCISM) Program and estimate its effect. A total of 32 individuals with SCI participated in the program. The primary outcomes were feasibility, acceptability, SHCs, and goal attainment. Participa

Hepatitis B virus-induced hepatocellular carcinoma: a persistent global problem.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections are highly prevalent globally, representing a serious public health problem. The diverse modes of transmission and the burden of the chronic carrier population pose challenges to the effective management of HBV. Vaccination is the most effective preventive measure available in the current scenario. Still, HBV is one of the significant health issues in various parts of the globe due to non-response to vaccines, the high number of concealed carriers, and the lack of access and awareness. Universal vaccination programs must be scaled up in neonates, especially i

Clinical Recommendations for Epistaxis Management During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Epistaxis is a common complaint in the general population, and its treatment is a common procedure in emergency departments. In the COVID-19 era, procedures involving airway management are a particular risk for health care workers due to the high virulence of the virus, the transmission through aerosol, and the risk of contagion from asymptomatic patients. In this article, we propose a simple memorandum of clinical recommendations to minimize the risk of operator infection deriving from epistaxis management. The correct use of personal protective equipment and strict compliance with the behavi

Combination therapy in allergic rhinitis: What works and what does not work.

UNLABELLED: Allergic rhinitis and other rhinitis subtypes are increasingly becoming some of the most prevalent and expensive medical conditions that affect the U.S. POPULATION: Both direct health care costs and indirect costs significantly impact the health care system due to delays in diagnosis, lack of treatment, ineffective treatment, poor medication adherence, and associated comorbidities. Many patients who have AR turn to over-the-counter medications for relief but often find themselves dissatisfied with the results. Determining the correct diagnosis, followed by initiation of the most-e

Perinatal psychiatric disorders: an overview.

Perinatal mental illness has a significant implication on maternal health, birth outcomes, and the offspring's development. Prevalence estimates of perinatal psychiatric illnesses range widely, with substantial heterogeneity in different population studies, with a lower prevalence rate in high- rather than low- or middle-income countries. Because of the potential negative impact on maternal and child outcomes and the potential lability of these disorders, the perinatal period is a critical time to identify psychiatric illnesses. Thus, obstetricians and midwives play a crucial role in assessing

Development and validation of an interprofessional collaborative educational module on the self-management of foot for individuals with type II diabetes mellitus in India.

BACKGROUND: Insufficient awareness of foot self-care among diabetic individuals results in diabetic foot ulcers especially in the Indian population considering its varied ethnicity and lifestyle practices. The management of diabetes and diabetic foot ulcers therefore demands a well-coordinated approach that involves multiple healthcare providers (HCPs). The present study aims to develop and validate an interprofessional collaborative (IPC) educational program involving HCPs to efficiently oversee and instruct the public on appropriate strategies for self-managing diabetic foot health in the In

Sexually acquired syphilis: Laboratory diagnosis, management, and prevention.

The methods used for the laboratory diagnosis of syphilis include direct detection of Treponema pallidum subspecies pallidum and serologic testing. Serologic testing relies on both nontreponemal and treponemal tests. In newly developed reverse-sequence screening algorithms, treponemal tests are performed before nontreponemal tests. The management of syphilis requires appropriate staging, treatment, and follow-up of patients along with the prompt reporting of infections to public health authorities to assist with prevention and control efforts. Benzathine penicillin G remains the treatment of c

Measurement of growth in children with developmental disabilities.

The clinical assessment of growth is a challenging, but essential, aspect of managing the health care of children with developmental disabilities. However, with standard equipment, modest training and some patience, almost all children can be measured reliably. Once reliable measurements are obtained, the interpretation or 'clinical meaning' of the measurements depends on their comparison with reference data from normal populations or, when available, with condition-specific reference data. More research is needed to improve our understanding of the clinical meaning of obtained measurements. T

Challenges and controversies in haemophilia care in adulthood.

Overall life expectancy and quality of life among persons with haemophilia have increased in recent years, primarily because of the advances in factor replacement therapy and better treatment of infectious diseases. Older haemophilic patients now face aging co-morbidities that are common in the general male population, such as cardiovascular or metabolic diseases, prostate hypertrophy and hepatic, prostate and other cancers. The prevalence of cardiovascular disease and incidence of vascular events among older haemophilic patients can be expected to increase and haemophilic patients may become

The epidemiology of 32 selected communicable diseases in Iraq, 2004-2016.

BACKGROUND: The 2003 invasion of Iraq significantly undermined population health. However, there is a lack of understanding of how it undermined communicable disease control. This study was performed to assess the incidence trends of 32 communicable diseases in post-conflict Iraq. METHODS: Reported incidence data for 32 communicable diseases (2004-2016) were collected from routine reports sent to the Iraqi Ministry of Health by primary health centers, and general and tertiary hospitals. Incidence (per 100 000) was defined as the number of reported incident cases divided by the population size
