Prognosis of locomotion in children with cerebral palsy (CP) is complicated by the variety of motor and other neurologic deficits in each case. Children presenting with spastic diplegic (SD) CP related to prematurity generally demonstrate more uniform and comparable neuromotor abnormalities. In this study, longitudinal data were collected on the early postural-locomotor development of children with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy (SDCP). The data were then correlated with the level of ambulatory function attained. Fifty spastic pediatric patients, aged 5 to 19 years, were included in the study

Sixteen senile geriatric inpatients were tested for visual affect recognition under four conditions. In the first three conditions, they were presented with different sets of happy, sad and angry facial stimuli. In the fourth condition, postural sketches were used to express the three emotions. The subjects were tested by means of verbal prompting, i.e., they were directed to point to either the happy, sad or angry facial and bodily expressions over a series of trials. Significantly more errors were made to the angry expressions than to the happy and sad ones which, in turn, did not differ fro

Flexor and extensor postural reflexes are most commonly seen in coma after structural brain lesions, but may also occur in metabolic coma. We report 10 patients who exhibited flexor or extensor posturing as an early and transient feature of coma resulting from sedative drug ingestion. In comatose patients with normal pupillary reactivity but no ocular movements, these postural responses suggest sedative drug overdose.

Circulatory regulation in response to postural changes follows mechanical rules, whereby the shifts in volume in the various organs of the body play an essential role. The change from the horizontal to the vertical position is accompanied by a decrease in pressure above the hydrostatic neutral point, i.e. in the cephalic vessels, whereas the capacious vessels in the caudal region are dilated and the venous return becomes sluggish. As a consequence of the different time courses followed by the various circulatory parameters in the wake of counter-regulatory measures, a distinction can be made b

The influence of postural changes on renal function was determined in 13 patients with nephroptosis and in 5 normal subjects by measuring GFR in the erect and supine positions. The result indicate that GFR was reduced in the erect position in 10 of 13 patients with either unilateral or bilateral nephroptosis whereas GFR was increased in the erect position in 4 of 5 patients without renal disease. One patient with bilateral nephroptosis and renovascular hypertension was studied before and after surgical correction of his disease. The observations indicate that patients with nephroptosis may hav

The main cause of occurrence of postural reactions in patients with extrapulmonary tuberculosis is a deficit of blood circulatory volume as well as cerebrospinal disturbances and "harmful" peculiarities of the operative posture. An increase of the circulatory volume by infusion of 0.5-1.0 litres of plasma substituting substances prior to patient's being rendered the operative posture liquidates, to a great extent, postural reactions of the circulatory system.

Objective:To investigate gait characteristics under different walking conditions in patients with persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD) and to examine their correlation with dizziness and balance scales. Methods:This study included 45 patients diagnosed with PPPD and 45 healthy controls recruited from the Department of Neurology, Xi'an Third Hospital, Northwest University, between January 2024 and March 2025. Gait parameters were assessed using a portable gait analysis system during single-task free walking and dual-task walking (while viewing and naming sequentially displayed fruit

The purpose of this study was to evaluate choroidal thickness (ChT) postural changes between sitting and standing position in healthy young adults. 100 patients, 56 males and 44 females (mean age 26,8 ± 2 years) underwent a complete eye examination, including ChT, axial length (AL) and IOP measurements. ChT measurement was performed in sitting and standing positions. In OD, mean subfoveal ChT was 279 μm ± 96 μm in sitting position and 267 μm ± 94 μm in standing position (p < 0.001); mean nasal ChT was 224 μm ± 88 μm in sitting position and 214 μm ± 88 μm in standing position (p < 0.001); mean

There is limited evidence on the effect of parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels on postural stability. Elevated PTH levels have been associated with impaired balance and gait instability in middle-aged and older adults.

BACKGROUND: Gait dysfunction is an important concern in Huntington's disease (HD). The influence of HD-specific postural control impairments on gait dysfunction, from pre-manifest HD (pHD) to manifest HD (mHD), is poorly understood.
OBJECTIVES: To explore the interplay of posture and gait in HD, we first (Aim 1) quantified the extent of deficits in postural control and gait across the spectrum of HD. Subsequently (Aim 2), we examined the contributions of postural control impairments to gait dysfunction.
METHODS: Participants (N = 38) included healthy controls (n = 10), pHD (n = 17), and mHD …

OBJECTIVE: To verify whether there is an increase in the center of pressure (COP) displacement velocity and area in individuals with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) in Vignos stages 2 and 3, assessed under different sensory conditions; to verify whether COP displacement velocity and area increase within the same Vignos stage with changes in sensory conditions during postural control assessment.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with individuals with DMD in Vignos stages 2 and 3, aged between 7 and 19 years old (mean 9.58, SD±3.22). Postural control was assessed using the Wii Ba
