Percutaneous Closure of Left Ventricular Outflow Tract to Left Atrium Fistula With 3-Dimensional Printing Simulation.

CASE SUMMARY: We present a case of a 31-year-old man with a history of aortic valve endocarditis and surgical aortic intervention. Computed tomography revealed a complex serpiginous fistula with 2 openings between the left ventricular outflow tract and the left atrium. Using 3-dimensional printing simulation for device fit testing and planning, the "mother-in-daughter" system, multimodality guidance with computed tomography angiography C-arm prediction, and 3-dimensional transesophageal echocardiogram guidance successfully guided an 18-mm Cribriform Amplatzer device deployed via a retrograde a

Diagnostic Accuracy of Craniosynostosis in Japan: A Survey Using Three-Dimensional Physical Models.

Craniosynostosis is the premature fusion of cranial sutures, which interferes with normal brain development and requires surgical treatment. By contrast, positional cranial deformity primarily results from external pressure exerted by the sleeping position and is usually managed conservatively. Accurately differentiating between these 2 conditions is essential. In Japan, the use of helmet therapy to treat positional cranial deformities has rapidly expanded, particularly among pediatricians. However, diagnoses based solely on visual inspection and palpation are limited. The aim of this study wa

A new system for custom helical mandibular distraction: a bench study on anatomical models.

Current mandibular distraction osteogenesis relies on stock or hybrid devices, which can only execute rectilinear or in-plane circular movements. This bench feasibility study evaluated the accuracy of a novel patient-specific helical distractor compared with commonly used rectilinear and hybrid rectilinear devices. Retrospective data from four patients with severe mandibular deformities were utilized. Computer-assisted surgical simulation software was employed to plan ideal distraction paths for each rectilinear and helical case. Three distractors-custom helical, hybrid, and stock-were fabrica

Preoperative Virtual Planning Combined with 3D-Printed Surgical Guide Technology for Correction of Shepherd's Crook Deformity: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND Shepherd's crook deformity, a rare and severe skeletal malformation, is characterized by a distinctive shepherd's crook-like curvature of the proximal femur. This pathological condition manifests as a marked reduction in the femoral neck-shaft angle (typically measuring less than 90 degrees). The deformity is most frequently observed in patients with fibrous dysplasia (FD), where it is a hallmark skeletal manifestation of the disease. CASE REPORT A 12-year-old boy presented with progressive deformity of both lower limbs. Physical examination revealed a typical "shepherd's crook" def

A novel fully automatic design approach of a 3D printed face specific mask: Proof of concept.

The use of high quality facemasks is indispensable in the light of the current COVID pandemic. This study proposes a fully automatic technique to design a face specific mask. Through the use of stereophotogrammetry, computer-assisted design and three-dimensional (3D) printing, we describe a protocol for manufacturing facemasks perfectly adapted to the individual face characteristics. The face specific mask was compared to a universal design of facemask and different filter container's designs were merged with the mask body. Subjective assessment of the face specific mask demonstrated tight clo

[Advances in the application of prosthetic reconstruction after tumor resection of the distal tibia:a systematic review].

The limited coverage of soft tissue and complex biomechanical factors make resection and reconstruction of distal tibial tumors extremely challenging. Megaprosthesis can provide good mechanical strength for tumor en bloc resection, but there are many postoperative complications, and the problems of insufficient soft tissue coverage and postoperative ankle instability must be solved. The development of three-dimensional digital technology may provide a new treatment strategy for distal tibial reconstruction. Compared to ankle joint preservation endoprostheses, the rapid osseointegration effect

A Low-Cost Apparatus for Measuring Muscle Force-Velocity Relationships.

The relationship between muscle force, contractile velocity, and power represents a nearly century-old paradigm in physiology and a cornerstone of our understanding of musculoskeletal function. However, this paradigm is rarely studied directly in physiology and biomechanics classrooms because of the prohibitive cost of the required equipment. This study sought to design and validate a low-cost apparatus using a 3D-printed pulley system incorporating a ratchet-and-pawl gear that can be easily constructed and configured to collect force-velocity-power data from human finger muscles via a smartph

Regulating the positioning of needles into hydrogel frameworks to produce vascularized tissue-engineered structures.

One significant barrier to the translation of tissue-engineered constructions is vascularization. It is still difficult for manufacturing science to directly fabricate hollow, vascular-like channels inside tissue-like gel materials. Using a robotic-arm controlled 3D printer to move user-defined needle tips through the gel materials is one suggested technique. In order to create the hollow channel inside gels and forecast the amount of insertion force and deflection, the needle gel interaction-related contact phenomenon was both simulated and empirically validated in this work. The geometric sh
