Psychologically informed patient education combined with exercise intervention is associated with improvements in tibial loading regulation, joint kinematics, and kinesiophobia in runners with medial tibial stress syndrome: a randomized controlled trial.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to examine the effects and potential mechanisms of an exercise intervention (EI) combined with psychologically informed patient education (PE) on tibial loading and associated risk factors in runners with Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome (MTSS). The aim was to identify a more effective intervention approach to reduce tibial loading. METHODS: A total of 104 participants were randomized to either the EI + PE group or the EI-only group (n = 52 per group). Ultimately, 87 participants (EI + PE: n = 44; EI: n = 43) completed the 8-week intervention and 3-month follow-up ass

Barriers and facilitators to linkage to HIV care after hospital discharge among adults living with advanced HIV disease in Uganda: a COM-B-guided qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Hospital discharge represents a high-risk transition period for people living with HIV, particularly those with advanced HIV disease. In low-resource settings, substantial gaps persist in linking these individuals to outpatient HIV care following hospitalisation. This study explored barriers and facilitators to post-discharge linkage to care from the perspectives of patients and healthcare workers (HCWs) in Eastern Uganda. METHODS: We conducted a descriptive qualitative study at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital between May and October 2025. Guided by the capability, opportunity, m

Patient Experiences and Provider Perspectives on Accessing Gender-Affirming Surgical Services in the Veterans Health Administration.

BACKGROUND: Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) veterans have a greater prevalence of suicide morbidity and mortality than cisgender veterans. Gender-affirming surgery (GAS) has been shown to improve mental health for TGD veterans. In 2021, the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) announced the initiation of a rulemaking process to cover GAS for TGD patients. OBJECTIVE: This study explores patients' and providers' perspectives about access to GAS and other gender-affirming medical interventions not offered in the VHA including barriers, facilitators, and clinical and policy recommendations.

'They already operated like it was a crisis, because it always has been a crisis': a qualitative exploration of the response of one homeless service in Scotland to the COVID-19 pandemic.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated unprecedented changes in the way that services are delivered to individuals experiencing homelessness and problem substance use. Protecting those at high risk of infection/transmission, whilst addressing the multiple health and social needs of this group, is of utmost importance. The aim of this novel qualitative study was to document how one service in Scotland, the Wellbeing Centre run by The Salvation Army, adapted in response. METHODS: Care was taken to identify methods that did not create additional stress at this pressured time. Semi-st

Sounds of Silence in Times of COVID-19: Distress and Loss of Cardiac Coherence in People With Misophonia Caused by Real, Imagined or Evoked Triggering Sounds.

The extreme, unprecedented situations in the current COVID-19 pandemic are risk factors for psychosocial stress for the entire population. However, strict confinement had a particular impact on people suffering from misophonia and their families. Misophonia is a condition in which hearing certain sounds triggers intense anger, disgust and even severe autonomic nervous system responses. This prospective cohort study examined the impact of strict confinement (Spain, March 14-June 21, 2020) on a sample of 24 people (16 women and eight men) who had been diagnosed with moderate to extreme misophoni

Effects of chronic nicotine administration on behavioral parameters and Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase mRNA expression in the brains of male Swiss Albino mice exposed to chronic stress during adolescence.

BACKGROUND: Stress during adolescence leads to the development of major stress-related diseases. The use of psychoactive substances and most psychiatric disorders have been linked to cigarette smoking during adolescence. Na+/K + ATPase isoforms are related to memory formation, stress activity and psychological disorders. Moreover, nicotine downregulates Na+/K + ATPase α2 isoform in rats’ brains. However, its connection to social stress and nicotine addiction is still unclear. Here we aimed for elucidating the effects of nicotine on behavioral parameters and Na+/K + ATPase mRNA in brains of mal

Self-disgust mediates the relationship between childhood adversities and psychosis.

OBJECTIVE: Traumatic events in childhood have been implicated in the development of psychosis, but given that trauma is not in itself sufficient to cause psychosis, researchers have started to investigate other psychological constructs potentially involved in explaining this relationship. Given that self-disgust as a transdiagnostic construct plays a role in the development/maintenance of a range of mental health difficulties, the objective of this study was to investigate whether self-disgust mediates the relationship between childhood trauma and psychosis. METHOD: A cross-sectional quantita
